This was simply a FANTASTIC tour! We have visited Jamaica many, many times but tend to stay close to our resort. We wanted to venture out and do something different on our most recent trip and came across this "Jamaican Countryside Food Tasting" tour! So delighted we found this gem of a tour. Our awesome Driver/Guide, Das, picked us up promptly at the designated location and time. His van was comfy and nicely air-conditioned, complete with nicely chilled bottles of water! We had a lovely 90 minute drive to Seaford Town in Westmoreland Parish. Das was informative and fun. He explained much about the villages we passed through and gave us insight to the history of Jamaica. The roads were a bit curvy, crazy, and filled with some interesting sights…it added to our experience. We turned off the main road onto a long driveway and arrived at Fada Chris Endz’ farm…WOW! It was very cool…a little covered patio with a pit, a kitchen, a bar and tables. When we arrived, the pigs were just about finished cooking. In the meantime, we enjoyed a seafood chowder, curry lobster tails and Red Stripes. All very tasty. After finishing that, the pork was ready…we received an ample portion, complete with festival, slaw, and rice. The meat was ever so tender and perfect. There are other food items available besides what we ate - jerk chicken, curry goat, escovitch fish, curry shrimp, fried breadfruit, etc. I am fairly certain they are equally as delicious. ***NOTE*** We took this tour on a Saturday, when Fada Chris’ restaurant was open - I believe the tour’s itinerary is different other days of the week. For me, as wonderful as the food was, I loved the experience and the sense of Community at Fada Chris'…locals and tourists chowing on some good food and enjoying Life in a peaceful environ. As the restaurant’s motto states: “WHERE THE FOOD AND THE VIBE IS RIGHT” Fada Chris Endz is super cool and appreciative of his guests. He is one hard-working Man! After hanging out at the restaurant for a bit, we started our trip home. Again, Das made the return trip interesting…talking about Jamaican Life. Das truly made this tour even more enjoyable and perfect - he was fantastic. and engaging. He is one heck of a solid Dude…the BEST! We hope our paths cross with Das on our next trip to Jamaica . It was an amazing day. While hanging out at a resort is always enjoyable, this was a nice change of scenery and a great way to see a bit of the Country. This is the REAL Jamaica!
The tour guide was knowledgeable about the food and the country. He took great photos of us and the food, and we even got to experience something not listed on the tour.
We never located the tour operator. Even the port officials couldn’t find him. They tried calling the number listed on the tickets several times, but no one ever answered. We ended up having to book another tour at the port. It was only when I got off my cruise today and had internet service did I see the emails from the tour operator. I expect a full refund, but I doubt I’ll get it. I will never use Viator again!
Lynnetta you never responded to any calls, texts or emails. You never confirmed the name of the cruiseship you are traveling on or even what the estimated disembarking time is. We still went to the port and waited. When booking you can clearly see the pickup time of 8:00 AM, the experience is 3hours and at 9:25 AM, we left the port because you were still not ready for pickup. It cannot be our responsibility to get you to respond to texts, calls or emails. We even contacted you 2 days before the experience to get an alternative number or way to reach you once you arrive at the port, because, we are aware that sometimes the cell signal is off upon arrival at the port. As the owner, I personally do every tour and I always open communication before the tour even starts but if you do not respond there's nothing I can do. I personally called Viator.com to report that you were late and I asked them to reach out to you while I was waiting on the phone but there was no answer from you. Whenever you're on a cruiseship, you need to ensure you have a way to reach the person you've booked the excursion with and ensure you know the times because cruiseships have their own schedule, you need to ensure your excursion will work with their schedule. The other option is to book the excursion upon arrival at the port.
Best tour I had...and the food was so good. The tour guide was wonderful very knowledgeable. I will definitely recommend this tour.
Fantastic must do tour!! Daz is very knowledgeable, hospitable and punctual! We enjoyed some delicious authentic food, some history, beautiful scenery, in a pristine air conditioned vehicle. My husband said it’s been the best part of the trip so far and I don’t disagree! Bless up Daz!
The tour guide was very knowledgeable on Jamaican history. We got a history lesson on our way to the food spots! Coming from New York we knew nothing about jamaica historically. He was great and so was the food. Would definitely book again.
This was absolutely incredible! Dasayev treated us to the ultimate authentic experience of countryside Jamaican food. When I mentioned I'd never had porridge, he went out of his way to get some for me! I'll definitely be recommending him to everyone, including my family. This was truly worth it and so much fun!
This was by far the the best excursion we did - it was authentic and well organised. Das communicated well with us before and during the booking. He was friendly, chatty and super knowledgeable. Very professional. We learned a lot about the local food and produce, culture, history, geography and supported a lot of local businesses at the same time. The car was clean and had good air con. We will definitely book Das again for other tours.
Das was amazing! A wealth of knowledge in food and history of Jamaica! He was friendly, warm welcoming and made you feel at home straightaway! We got to see authentic Jamaican food being made and sold . We also got to see parts of Jamaica that you might not get to usually get see with a breadth of knowledge incorporated! We left very full with leftovers! Das was the best host and by far the best tour we had so far! Would definitely recommend!!!
What an awesome experience! There's no coming to Jamaica if you don't do this tour. Getting the different taste of the authentic Jamaican food, the service, the snacks, the places, and all the info provided by our tour guide Das. It's priceless. Will do again for every time I visit the island.
