This was such a great experience if you're wanting to get a taste of Zulu culture! Going to both Phezulu and Isithumba is perfect because you get to see the really fun performances for tourists at Phezulu, but also normal daily life in Isithumba (where you will probably be the only tourist there) and spend time walking around with locals learning about their lives. You might even get challenged to a game of pool! The guide Zamani is fantastic - fun to be around, flexible, and he made sure we did as much as possible with our time. Highly highly recommended if you're looking for something to do around Durban!
A fantastic tour which far exceeded our expectations. Zamani proved to be an excellent tour guide, picking us up promptly at 9.00 am. He was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly, driving us first to Phezulu Safari Park where we watched the colourful dancers and musicians enacting scenes from a traditional Zulu wedding. There followed a visit to the reconstructed village huts, then the snake house and crocodiles where a friendly Burmese python provided some unique. photo opportunities. The visit to Isithumba was even more special. Here was an authentic Zulu village where Zamani was joined by a local guide who was superb. He talked a lot about Zulu culture, beliefs and customs while accompanying us around the village. This was a very eye-opening and moving experience and we were even treated to lunch in his own family's home. We talked and talked. The conversation was enlightening, intelligent and open-minded. We came away feeling that we knew much more than we could have hoped for about this remarkable people. Our thanks to Zamani and his colleague for such a personal experience. We returned to Durban where Zamani added an unscheduled tour around some of the city's sights and a visit to Victoria market where further sights, sounds and smells delighted our senses. A great tour which I would highly recommend.
A tour designed for cultural lovers. The village with the tribal dancers was fascinating and the dancing was mesmerising. The safari park with the snakes and crocodiles was very interesting and I plucked up courage and held the giant Burmese python. Excellent tour on a one to one basis with fabulous guide. Well worth the money.
The company, Afro Zulu Tours is well organized and communicated with us on WhatsApp to prepare us for the tour. Zamani was an excellent tour guide. We had books about the Zulu to review and water. We stopped at PheZulu Park for the Zulu Reenactment tour and performance which were well done. Also they have a reptile center there. Next we went to an existing town to learn about how the Zulu live today. All in all, this was a rewarding experience. Well worth it!
Great tour. Very informative. Kept my attention. I grew up watching Shaka every February during Black History Month in the States. I decided I wanted to visit and came across this tour. Great experience.
We booked with tour guide Zamani, he showed us an authentic experience around Durban! It was an experience that I'll never forget and would definitely do it again! Thank you Zamani!
