Our half day trip was great. The pickup was good although the van was packed so our family couldn’t sit together as we were the last to be picked up. We arrived at the hat stop where we were shown how the famous Vietnamese hats are made. All of the hats on display are for sale so if you want a hat this supports a local who actually makes them. We then got to paint a small souvenir hat to take home. Great for the kids but the adults in our tour seemed to enjoy it just as much. They offered us the chance for a home cooked lunch for a fair price, which we accepted. The food was really good and there was plenty of it. Next stop was the incense village, where we walked through the village and saw people making the incense by hand. Our final stop in this village was a display clearly set up for the Instagram moments. The guide was very good ensuring everyone got photos. The journey back was long and the traffic was horrendous. It took the best part of two hours but they gave us the choice of dropping us at our original pickup or at train street. This was perfect timing and hour before the train came. The trip is a great experience and showing some different aspects of life and industry in Vietnam. The only negative for me is the fact the guide insists on leaving good feedback and went round the group getting everyone to do so. For me he should have faith that the tour is good. If you force everyone to leave five star ratings that could put people off as it is not real. But that is the unfortunate reality in Vietnam, many reviews are forced as that is standard practice in restaurants too.
I had an amazing experience of visiting Incense Village and Hat Village with our tour guide Mr. Alex. Thanks to him we had a personalized experience of the hat making. Even he had exceptional photography skills that we were able to take some breath taking photos at Incense Village.
