Great experience. Beautiful scenery, friendly staff. Wonderful to see where the films were made. Guide very knowledgable and great with adults and kids.
An entertaining guide all the way, from the moment on the transit coach from the car to our return journey! Our guide was able to give a great impression, I won't tell you which one! A largish group and the guide have everyone time to ask and answer any questions along side the tour Good eye contact and hand gestures so you knew if you you were involved. Overall great service from our guide The site was as expected, which was great as our expectations were high, it felt like Hobbiton, it looked like Hobbiton, that's because it was Hobbiton. Tastefully maintained and care for, some tweaks for access and tours, really was a good visit and worth the visit for this experience.
It is a must do for people from NZ and for those visiting from overseas. This was my second visit. This time it was with a 19 year old grand-daughter visiting from the UK. A nearly 21 year old grand-daughter will visit me soon and she may well want to do the Hobbiton tour too. Rob our tour guide was fun, informative and made sure that he included all of the people in the group. Well done Rob.
The grounds are stunningly beautiful. The whole place feels magical. The guides were fun and informative. The food was DELICIOUS!
Very well organized and the guide was very informative 👍 Best seen on a beautiful sunshiny day. The attention to detail was amazing and the maintenance of the movie set was very impressive.
At $130 per person, this is quite simply a RIP-OFF … for what is essentially a well decorated vegetable patch. For that money…there should have been a show and a lot more activities. It is clear that you are catering for the cashed-up diehard nerds that enjoy ‘ghoul and gobblin’ movies…probably trying to live out there non-nerd fantasies. I have not seen “The Hobbit” or “Lord of the Rings” and don’t in intend to. Other members of my family have seen it. So why did we go?…well after googling “things to do near Auckland” you are bomarded with: “Hobbiton this and Hobbiton that”. Not even A.I. could save me from the Google hits…so we caved-in and bought tickets. We turned up to the site and were escorted by tour guide to what seemed to me, to be a well-decorated vegetable patch. Yeah it looked nice, cute even. But could not see where all my money went. As the tour guide was blabbing about nonsense, such as which pumpkins were real vs those that were fake, I was thinking to myself, heck these guys just rolled me and my family (total over 500 bucks). Nothing much I can do about it I first thought. Well I can! And this review proves it. Having been told rather other pathetic stories, there is one about some oak tree’s leaves needing to being painted twice at the request of a producer … Umm Sorry, this is not praise for him as a perfectionist!! amongst other issues we heard, it seems to be a clear diagnosis of OCD! Heck people…I took the family to Disney for similar money…but jeez…that was Disney!!! Even Hamilton Gardens a few hours away had a beautiful creative garden and was only 20 bucks…(which is reasonable). If the owners of Hobbiton wanna fleece people, so be it…but don’t expect praise from me. Which leads me to my other rant. If some well-known film company built all that crap and left it in place as some sort of ‘gift to the farm’ for its use. Why the “F” are the owners charging so much. Maybe have some dancing Ewoks (or whatever those wierd midgets in the movie are called). Peeps…save yourself the money…seriously. This review is even pitched to those silicon valley computer nerds that love watching The Big Bang Theory and wanna ‘live out’ this Hobbiton fantasy to escape their nerdish reality. Just go to Google, download lots of pictures about Hobbiton, watch them on a big screen tv over and over, then lie to you friends about being there. You’ll have the same experience whilst saving some dough at the same time. As for Parents…beware of fake positive reviews circulating online talking this place up. It is extraordinarily expensive for what you get….There are no rides. No actors. No costume examples. No theatre about how the place was built. Just vegetables and huts. The tour guide just points out where actors “stood”. I’ve been to many places in the world. And honestly, this pace is worth NO MORE than 30 to 40 bucks ..Tops!! Charging 130 is a rip off. There you have it peeps. The summary….DON’T BUY. DON’T GO.
A highlight of our NZ holiday. The entire experience is worthwhile, cleverly put together & it truly made you believe you were in the Shire!
Yeah the extra bit of infomation by the tour guide was really good, and the details in the hobit houes
It's Hobitton, nuff said. But if you're really need more, yes it's awesome! The entire area is beautiful so just go.
We had the BEST experience at Hobbiton! My husband and I would recommend it to anyone. We were fortunate to be in a small group (8 people), and I think it made for an even better experience. Our tour guide, John, was amazing! He was enthusiastic, informative, and always willing to play photographer.
