HQ of the 1916 Rising in Dublin is our first stop on the tour The GPO, or General Post Office, in Dublin, Ireland, was the central site of the 1916 Easter Rising, a rebellion against British rule. Led by figures like Patrick Pearse and James Connolly, Irish republicans aimed to establish an independent Irish Republic. The rebels seized key locations, including the GPO, proclaiming the Irish Republic. Despite fierce fighting, the uprising failed due to lack of public support and British military strength. The GPO's symbolic significance endured, and the Easter Rising contributed to the eventual establishment of the Irish Free State and Republic of Ireland.

One of the funniest, insightful historical tours I ever took!

Donald recited poetry, the PRO, proclamation of independence and gave incredibly funny details about Dublin, the revolution, the complicated history, the pubs and the changes in the last 50 years. He was entertaining and funny and full of quirky titbits about this amazing town. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend. Penelope

Thank you so much, Penelope, for your wonderful review! I'm delighted you enjoyed the stories, poetry and history that make Dublin such a fascinating city. It was a pleasure sharing the events of the Revolution, the Proclamation, and some of the lesser known tales and quirky details that have shaped Dublin over the years. I'm especially pleased you enjoyed finishing the tour in the Ha'penny Bridge Inn. There's no better way to round off a walk through Dublin's history than in one of its great traditional pubs. Thank you again for your kind recommendation. It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with you, and I hope to welcome you back to Dublin again one day. Safe travels and Sláinte!

A great afternoon and a pint

Donal really knows his stuff - certified, expert in history, culture, literature, poetry, whisky and beer! He is super personable and funny and he read our vibe and immediately felt like a friend. We had a great time and highly recommend My Journey Ireland.

Wow, thank you so much for such an incredible review! Reading comments like this genuinely means the world to me. I'm delighted you enjoyed the mix of history, culture, literature, poetry, whisky, and, of course, a few great pints along the way. One of my favourite parts of guiding is getting to know each group and tailoring the experience to their personalities, so it's wonderful to hear you felt more like friends than guests by the end of the tour. Thank you for recommending My Journey Ireland. It was a real pleasure spending time with you, and I hope our paths cross again the next time you're back in Dublin. Sláinte! Donal

Crawling the countryside with Donal.

Spent the better part of a week on a tour of this most amazing Ile with one of the best guides I have had in my many adventures. His local knowledge and historical perspective blends well with his humor and love of county. He arranged meals, entertainment, and of course, libations all with out a hitch. Managing a large group or small, his conection with both young and old was most enjoyable. We even got several serenades of traditional irish folk music on our travels. A capella. I left the trip wishing we had more time to explore and enjoy. To my family and I, we started with a tour guide and ended with a friend. The best compliment you can give is a referral and upon my return I have done so many times. Slàinte Donal, Thanks for sharing your island, towns and culture with us. We shall return Warning or a promise, you decide.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and generous review. Reading this brought a huge smile to my face. It was a real pleasure spending the week with you and the rest of the Ohio Northern University group. I'm delighted that you enjoyed not only the history and local stories, but also the music, humour, and the many memorable meals, pubs, and experiences we shared along the way. One of the greatest privileges of being a guide is having the opportunity to introduce visitors to Ireland's people, culture, and traditions. Hearing that you started the trip with a tour guide and ended it with a friend is one of the nicest compliments I could receive. Thank you as well for the referrals. There is no greater endorsement, and I truly appreciate your support. Slàinte, and thank you for allowing me to share a small part of Ireland with your family. Whether your return is a warning or a promise, I'll gladly take it as good news and look forward to welcoming you back someday. Until then, safe travels and all the very best, Donal

Knowledgeable and fun

Our family just had the most amazing week with Donal. He gave our group many interesting facts while also making the trip fun with his humor. If he didn't know an answer to a question, he made a point to discover the answer. I really do hope you visit the states in 2029 and make a detour to connect with us Ohioans for a few days. We truly just made a distant lifelong friend. 'Who has the best bus?' 'We have the best bus.' And last but not least, since you are no longer permitted to say it, 'my graveyard'.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. Hosting the Ohio Northern University group was an absolute pleasure, and your kind words mean a great deal to me. I am delighted that you enjoyed the mix of history, stories, and humour throughout the week. One of the best parts of guiding is sharing Ireland with curious travellers, and I always enjoy tracking down the answers to any questions that catch me out! The friendships and connections made during tours are what make this work so rewarding. I genuinely enjoyed spending the week with all of you, and I hope our paths cross again in the future. If I ever find myself in Ohio in 2029, I'll be sure to look up my ONU friends. And yes, for the record: we have the best bus! Thank you again for travelling with me and for helping make the week such a memorable one. I'll also give a quiet nod to "my graveyard" and leave it at that. Warm regards, Donal

Great tour i will never forget :)

Perfect tour! We were the only couple booking this tour on this january day and we got a very sweet private tour :) It ended with us pouring our own pint in a pub and the bartender even showed us the basement with all the kegs and the cooling room ❤️ Donal is a very knowledgeable and funny guy and i can’t recommend this tour enough :) Also he offers a pub tour -> He really knows his way around the pubs in dublin so that is a recommendation too :)

Interesting hike in Dublin, beyond the tourist traps.

We are very pleased with our enthusiastic guide Donal, if was both knowledgeable and had a twinkle in his eye. Got both a lot of history from this local patriot and also tips on places to look closer at. Donal answered all our questions knowledgeably.

Nice hiking but the guide could have been better.

Talks a lot about people and years. Talking fast and not so clear. Much that he has been through himself and less on Dublin.
