Description

I have decided to make the bicycle my means of transportation in my daily life, so I have been able to get to know the city in detail and it is precisely what I invite you to know: a green, modern, cosmopolitan and super important, historical city. In addition to being a bicycle and nature enthusiast, I am a general history lover and a superhost with more than 1,200 reviews on Airbnb, so I would like to share with you my experience, as well as relevant data from both Guatemala and all the countries represented in squares. In addition, I studied tourism business administration at university, so I plan to put all my academic and professional experience at your service. The cycle path will take us to places full of nature and historical value. Join us!

Itinerary

MEETING POINT AND DEPARTURE. We meet at address 17 Avenida 4 - 84 Zona 14 Guatemala City. Double white gate on the right side, about 100 meters after the Meraki 14 building (to be placed on Uber). From here we walk and cycle about 15 minutes to reach the cycleway on Avenida Las Americas.

5 min

1. OBELISCO SQUARE. The first stop on Avenida Las Américas is at the Plaza del Obelisco, where we will find a monument to the heroes of independence.

5 min

2. MONUMENT TO SIMÓN BOLÍVAR. The second point is the monument to one of the most relevant characters in the history of Latin America, the hero of the independence of several South American countries, Simon Bolivar.

5 min

3. PLAZA COSTA RICA. One of the most beautiful squares on the tour where you will find a beautiful mosaic representing Costa Rican culture.

5 min

4. PLAZA CHILE. A small square but with a lot of historical value.

5 min

5. PLAZA COLOMBIA. Another of the most beautiful and largest squares on the route with interesting artistic monuments.

5 min

6. PLAZA HONDURAS. Small but cute square that has interesting monuments and geometric shapes.

5 min

7. PLAZA ARGENTINA. One of my favorite squares where you can see the flag of the South American country complemented by the blue of the sky.

5 min

8. MEXICO PLAZA. One of the largest squares on the tour where we can learn about one of the most important characters in Mexican history.

5 min

9. EL SALVADOR SQUARE. Small square where we can learn about the history of this resurgent and beautiful country.

5 min

10. PLAZA CHILE - O'HIGGINS. Small square, the second in Chile (the only country that has two on the route) that we visited briefly.

5 min

11. NICARAGUA PLAZA. Dedicated to the great poet Rubén Darío, we will visit this square with interesting monuments alluding to the writer.

5 min

12. DOMINICAN REPUBLIC SQUARE. Brief passage through this beautiful square where we can take the opportunity to take a break.

5 min

13. CRISTÓBAL COLÓN SQUARE. Without a doubt the largest square on the route where you can see a complex sculptural work by the Genoese navigator.

17. PLAZA URUGUAY. Plaza honoring the Uruguayan military man, José Gervasio Artigas, and we will learn about his contributions to the independence of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata.

5 min

18. PLAZA ECUADOR. One of my favorites, we will be able to see a beautiful mosaic representing the sister nation of Ecuador, as well as a nice detail of its fauna.

5 min

19. PLAZA CLEMENTE MARROQUÍN. The only square not alluding to the theme of Las Américas, dedicated to journalists who fell in the exercise of their profession.

10 min

20. BERLIN SQUARE. Nice end to the tour in this huge and very interesting square where we can appreciate pure history related to World War II, as well as the Cold War.

Non Existent Meet Up Point

There were two meet up points listed on the booking: one was 17 Avenida 8-66, Cdad. de Guatemala 01014, Guatemala and the other was Starbucks Oakland Mall (according to the itinerary). Viator confirmed the pick up point to be 17 Avenida 8-66, Cdad. de Guatemala 01014, Guatemala. However when I got there, there was no one. “The start of the tour is at 17 Avenida Zona 14, directly opposite Antari 14. From here we leave with the bikes looking for the cycle path to start the tour.” is the description in the booking confirmation. I even walked to Antari 14, as shown on Google Maps, but it’s just an empty space. I’ve tried to ring the doorbell of 8-66 but no one has answered. Have contacted Viator on WhatsApp but no reply.

Operator response

Hi there! Unfortunately I was not notified about this reservation as it was not booked by the regular way (Viator) but a third party/site. Would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, there was not to much for me to do as I did not had details of this tour. The refund for the total amount paid has been confirmed with the Viator CS.

Nice varied tour

Very nice bike tour of Guatemala City. José is a super guide who showed us a lot and gave us historical background on the various points. José has us supper received explained everything to us and took a lot of consideration for us during the trip. The tour itself takes you along cycle paths along various highlights and is very safe.

Fun tour with a knowledgeable guide

Fun tour with a passionate and knowledgeable guide. Navigating to the tour starting point on a bike is through side streets and traffic so having reasonable biking skills to navigate is needed.
