Itinerary
At 9:00 AM or 2:00 PM, our guide will pick you up at your hotel then start the tour. Our tour guide will welcome you at your hotel then start the walking tour to discover Hanoi’s Old Quarter which is famous with “36 guild streets” in the past time. Nowaday, the villages were turned to streets and many of them didn’t feature the business as it names anymore. But it’s worth your time to wander along the old streets and you surely gain many exciting experience. Despite the damages that Vietnam War left in Hanoi, the Old Quarter still retained much of the original traits that interests tourists, especially those with architectural passion. These houses are neither tall buildings as people normally see in cities nor stilt houses on lines of poles, which were popular in Vietnam’s mountainous regions these days. They are also called “tubular houses” which are short and narrow but have great length.
After walking around and enjoy some local specialties (excluded), continue to Hoan Kiem Lake area where you can pay a visit Ngoc Son temple or enjoy a drink at Trang Tien Ice Cream, Thuy Ta Ice Cream or some famous café shop/restaurants nearby. We have the walking street and “Night market” at the weekend where no vehicles are allowed, so you can enjoy walking and going shopping without being afraid of the traffic. Tour ends around 12:00 PM (for the morning tour) or 5:00 PM (for the afternoon tour)

We had a very nice afternoon with Tony. He showed us different corners of the old town, which we would have passed. It is an interesting tour that we recommend to anyone who has arrived in Hanoi and then wants to continue exploring the city independently. Tony is very attentive and approaches personal requests ,also gives good advice and the tour is not finished after 3 hours! We were very happy with everything and recommend this tour with Tony.
Was a good tour for the price. The best part was our tour guide châu. She was very sweet and knowable and gifted us a crochet flower that is now hanging off my pack.
It was a nice way to spend a few hours and get to know the city better. Understanding the culture and both French and Chinese influences
They never showed up. I am very disappointed. They didn’t communicate before or after the tour schedule. I believe this is a fraud.
Our tour guide did not show. Hopefully a full refund d is given. We embarked on our own walking tour.
Great tour ! We went all around the old quarter and saw so much in 3 hours! Vania was a great guide, very friendly and spoke a fantastic level of English. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone thinking of doing it !
We were guided by Linh, a spectacular and sensational girl! Walking and moving, like a fish in water, in the streets of Hanoi. Showing us temples that we would not have thought of visiting, getting to know places that you miss in the maelstrom of traffic. She is a young guide, with energy and contagious joy! Definitely, if we had to return, we would call her again! Thank you Linh for everything! Hugs from argentina
This tour welcomed me to Hanoi as my first view of the city, and for that, I had a local student to escort me. The tour was far from my expectations, since she didn't know much about history and didn't have a tour guide approach. She was very helpful to buy some clothes since the temperature dropped drastically that day and pick up some tickets from a travel agency, but apart from that, it was a poor experience. The most important spot was a kind of museum that she said was not so important, and we could go ahead. It was a place with lots of pictures that explained how the Old Quarter grew and the architectural evolution of the houses in that area. Far the most important place to visit, with at least 1.5 hours. Before sending someone, ask people their age and expectations in order to choose the best knowledge guides for some historical-oriented travelers. Then everything will be more efficient.
Dear my friend, We believe you have confused our organization with another party and left an incorrect review. We are Hanoi Free Walking Tours, in our Old French Quarter tour itinerary, there are no museum attractions, and we always ensure that the tour guide has full knowledge of culture and history when leading the tour. We would be grateful if you would please update or remove your feedback on our TripAdvisor Page. Please contact us at your soonest convenience for more information by sending us an email at hanoi@vietbuddies.org. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
Hi everyone! Would like to say big “Thank you” to Ashley for a great introduction with old Quarter part of Hanoi in frame of excursion. Detailed stories, light and at the same time quite informative presentation ,good English gave me so much joy. Additionally Ashley gave so many recommendations ,which I personally asked. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable guide Ashley! Highly recommended and wish all the best!:)
Our guide for the Old Quarter walking tour was Lyn. She was very punctual and had contacted us one day before the tour. She was very informative and was kind to answer all our questions (which we asked quite a lot). She was very friendly and took us for a cup of coffee as well. Overall totally recommend her.
