The Hanmer Hot Pools are a kiwi gem and we have been multiple times and always a great experience. Sadly on this occasion I have been DONE by TripAdvisor. The day pass deal that I have purchased was billed in USD. This is a disgrace on TripAdvisor's behalf. I please ask for you to either default the currency to local or clearly show what currency it is advertised in.

The hot pools are always an amazing experience, to simply relax and soak in the hot pools of various temperatures.

I just love the vibe in Hanmer, great accommodation and restaurants and the Hanmer half and 10 k course were awesome and a wonderful well run event . Pools were well supported and very nice and clean .

We had two fantastic days here, visiting from Australia. It was very affordable, especially booking through sites like Bookme, and there were so many different pools to explore, each with its own style and temperature. Our favourite was the rock pools because of the natural-touch, and the temperature was comfortable enough to stay in for longer compared to some of the hotter pools. Even as adults, we absolutely loved the water slides, especially the Conical Thrill! We ended up going on it multiple times. A big plus was the large umbrellas, which were great for both shade and shelter during the heavy rain on our second day. But honestly, being in the pools while it was raining was a really cool experience too. There were plenty of picnic tables, so bringing our own food was easy, and the lockers worked well for storing our belongings. We also appreciated all the lifeguards regularly walking around and checking that everyone was safe. We loved how quiet it was, it never felt overcrowded. I guess it also be helped that we visited in low season too. It was also nice to be able to shower afterwards, with shampoo, conditioner, soap, and body lotion all provided. Overall, such a relaxing and fun experience, we’d definitely come back! A memorable experience. Thank you!!

A good calm set of pools very safe lots of staff looking on to ensure safety. A great feel and superior to Rotarua.

Everything can be supplied if needed. Towels footwear etc. great food and coffee. Plenty of space to enjoy your experience

Towels for hire, remember to bring a wet bag for your clothes. Staff were friendly, lockers were great. Slides were COLD! Remember not to wear your silver jewellery.

An over-priced and under-whelming experience. At ~ $40 per person per entry, this was not very good value for money. The "pool pass" that offers a discount online can't be used until's been activated in person(!), and then is only applicable to the single entry pass, which is the worst value-for-money entry option. As an incentive scheme, it might have value for people who frequently visit the pools for a single visit (as opposed to a same-day or two-day return visit), but has little value for travellers passing through. We were disappointed with the hours of operation. We asked the staff what time the pools closed and were told 9:00 p.m. However at 7:30 p.m. the cafe was already closed, and the back portion of the complex (lane pool, water slides, lazy river). closed just as we got there at 8:30 p.m. If we'd been told the correct info we would have visited those pools first, but instead we missed out on all that. We were also somewhat disappointed with the facilities. At shortly before closing time, the changing rooms were open but not very clean, and most of the toilets were blocked off. I understand that staff want to get home so might be tempted to start their closing duties a bit ahead of closing time, but customers should be entitled to use the facilities during all the hours of operation. The most frustrating thing was trying to bring these concerns to the attention of the company's management (and I did, so this review should not come as any surprise to them). There were a lot of excuses and nobody seemed to be in charge. They were quite happy to take our money but didn't seem to know what to do when we said we didn't get our money's worth.

Regarding the Pool Pass, it is designed primarily for repeat local visits and does need to be activated onsite before discounts apply. We understand that this may not provide the same value for travellers, and your feedback about how this is communicated online is helpful and something we will review. I’m also sorry to hear about the confusion around closing times. While the main pools remain open until closing, some areas of the facility such as the café and certain attractions do close earlier for operational and safety reasons. That said, we apologise if this was not clearly explained by our team when you asked, as we always want guests to have the information they need to make the most of their visit. Cleanliness and access to facilities right up until closing time are important to us, and it’s disappointing to hear that the changing rooms and toilets did not meet the standard we aim to maintain. Your comments have been shared with the team so we can review our closing procedures and ensure facilities remain available and well presented for guests. Finally, I’m sorry that you felt your concerns were not properly addressed when you raised them with management. That is certainly not the experience we want anyone to have, and we will be following this up internally. We have been visiting the thermal pools at Hanmer NZ for over twenty years, the setting is beautiful and you can feel like you are in the forest rather than the centre of the village, or at least we used to! This recent trip we got together a group as usual, headed to Hanmer and stayed in a great rental house. We so look forward to a relaxing time, chatting and having spa treatments, BUT NOT THIS TIME. The minute you enter the complex the blasting music hits you like a tidal wave, no more relaxing in pools chatting with friends, no more relaxing facials and massages, every part of the complex is like being at a cheap theme park playing stupid music! Whoever thought this feature would be an asset to the spa wants sacking! If we wanted stupid noise we would go to a theme park. We will not be returning next year!

We’re very sorry to hear that your recent visit didn’t provide the relaxing experience you were looking forward to. We understand how important the peaceful forest atmosphere is, especially when catching up with friends or enjoying spa treatments. During February, we trialled a short summer initiative that included music and pool toys in the lap pool on Fridays from 4–6pm, as well as on Saturday the 28th as part of our end-of-summer party. This was a limited trial designed to create a bit of summer fun for families and children, and it’s not something we normally do on an ongoing basis. Outside of those specific times, the pools and spa areas operate as usual. The trial was well received by many of our guests, particularly families, but we absolutely appreciate that it wasn’t the experience you were expecting — especially as a returning guest who values the more tranquil environment. Your feedback is important to us as we review these types of initiatives, and we’ll be taking it into consideration. We do hope you might consider visiting again outside of any special event times so you can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere you’ve loved for so many years.
