Hallstatt is one of Austria’s most iconic and picturesque villages, nestled between the dramatic Dachstein Alps and the emerald waters of Lake Hallstatt. With its charming lakeside houses, narrow alleys, and breathtaking mountain backdrop, it feels like a place taken straight from a fairytale. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is not only famous for its beauty, but also for its history dating back more than 7,000 years, closely connected to one of the world’s oldest salt mines. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed walk through the village, admire panoramic viewpoints, visit the historic market square, or take a peaceful stroll along the lake. A visit to Hallstatt is about atmosphere as much as sights — calm, romantic, and deeply authentic. We had an amazing day trip from Salzburg to Admont Abbey and Hallstatt! Our driver, D, made the experience exceptional with his friendly conversation, local knowledge, and great sense of humor that kept our teenagers entertained throughout the day. Communication before and during the trip was excellent, especially via WhatsApp, making everything seamless. Having private transportation for our group of six was incredibly convenient, and we appreciated the flexible itinerary, which was easily adjusted throughout the day—especially with the rainy weather. The Mercedes van was spotless and comfortable, and the scenic drive through rolling hills, charming churches, and beautiful lakes was a highlight. We even stopped for a fun photo at the Red Bull Headquarters. Admont Abbey's stunning library was breathtaking and reminded us of Beauty and the Beast. We also enjoyed tasting wine in the Abbey shop. In Hallstatt, D first took us to the panoramic overlook before we explored the village. His recommendations for shops were excellent, and we had plenty of time to enjoy lunch, take photos, and soak in the fairytale atmosphere. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Salzburg and have already booked another trip from Vienna with the same company. Thank you, D, for making our day so memorable!
