Naftal was our excellent guide. He took us to 3 local Swakoplund homes. 1 lady was a herbalist. Another owned cattle and wore a hat shaped like cattle horns. The final lady owned a restaurant with better Wi-Fi than our ship. We were served caterpillars which are a local delicacy and a spinach dip and white bean dip and beer or water.. We ended our visit with a local men's A Capella group singing 4 beautiful songs for us. Dorothy from our group danced with a singer.
The tour guide never showed up, still waiting for a refund or response from Tripadvisor. Don't book this trip!!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review 🌟 We are truly happy to hear that you had such a great experience and that the excursion gave you a broad and memorable view of Namibia in a short time. We appreciate your understanding regarding the initial meeting point and are glad it was resolved quickly so the rest of the tour went smoothly. It means a lot to us that you enjoyed the variety of places—from Walvis Bay and the lagoon flamingos to Dune 7, the Namib Desert, and beautiful Swakopmund—and that our driver’s knowledge, patience, and kindness stood out to you. Your recommendation is greatly appreciated. We hope to welcome you again in the future, or to host your friends and family should they visit Namibia 🇳🇦😊
We did the afternoon tour with guide Theo. He really went out of his way to explain the history of Mondesa and the DRC, how both developed over the years, told us about the different tribes living in the township, showed us which items are sold on the market, and answered every question we had. We met a Herero woman and learned a few words in her language, got a tour of a school & community center in DRC, and were taught some words in the "click language" of the Damara tribe at a craft center for single mothers. Later on we were served some delicious Namibian food by lovely Lizel Corinne. The tour finished with a talented group of acapella singers. We loved the experience and can only recommend everyone coming to Swakopmund to do it. You meet great locals, who notably enjoy showing tour guests around their township, and share lots of good vibes and most importantly their culture with you. This is the most authentic experience we've had in the country. We learned so much and were happy to support this cause and business, which gives back to the community of the township!
This was an amazing tour. Constance is very knowledgeable so I was able to learn lot about Namibia. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have a local experience.
There are tourists. And there are travelers. If you want to get outside the tour bus/souvenir shop bubble, this is a terrific opportunity. Nande was an excellent communicator. He picked us up where we were staying and took us to an open-air produce market. We visited a children's daycare center, a school library, and a women's center where we had a quick lesson in click language. We had a lunch of typical Namibian foods in a private home. We felt completely comfortable throughout. At NO point did we feel pressured to donate or tip any of the people we met. (We did buy small items and give tips out of choice. And we brought school supplies to donate, which I would urge you to do.) You'll see plenty of nature in Namibia. This is a great chance to meet some of the people.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review,it was a great pleasure having you on our tour and we are glad to hear that you had a fantastic time in Mondesa, wishing all the best and great stay in Namibia
We had a very knowleadgeable and witty tour guide. He narrated the history and development of Mondesa, as if he was there during the time in question. The route involves a visit to the local market (where there's an extensive showcase of local food), a drive through the township - identifying important landmarks. There are stops at the Damara homestead, a San languange teacher/craft market, and finally settle for a bounty of a tasty local meal whilst listening to soothing melodies from a local Acapella group. The tour guide will gladly drive you back where he pick you up.
