This trip was marketed and sold to us as a Mombasa City Tour. It is Not!! It IS more like a Mombasa "Shopping tour" !! The majority of the morning was spent shopping and waiting for people to shop. At the Wood carving centre, we actually waited over 1 HOUR for people to finish their shopping. I spoke to our local guide about this at the time, But he said , " It's okay! " . Also , there were far too many people. The large coach was FULL, with different nationalities , so everything was said in English , and then had to be translated. It wasted more time, and lead to confusion and some outbursts! Apart from this excursion, we had an Excellent holiday in Kenya. But this City tour was a major disappointment, and the worst part. It was near the end , so has left some bad memories. We did also contact and formally complain to the Pollmans rep about it, but they have ignored our complaint. Don't waste your time and money on this trip.
Hello, this trip was a real low point of the holiday, a complete waste of a morning when I could have spent the day doing something else. Too many people on the trip and loads of waiting around for people to arrive and finish their shopping. I want my money back!!!
This trip was a massive disappointment from beginning to end. The group was far too large and a great deal of time was wasted waiting for people to get on and off the coach. We had to wait almost an hour at the wood carving market for everyone to get through the gift shop as it was totally understaffed! With two different nationalities on the bus, all instructions had to be repeated several times. We arrived at the world heritage site Fort Jesus for a brief photo stop. Exploring the inside of the famous landmark UNESCO site wasn't even on the agenda. Unbelievable!! Even more appalling, after sending two emails to Pollmans detailing my disappointment, I have received absolutely no acknowledgement, although I had been assured by the Pollmans rep, Emmanuel this would be looked into. Pollmans failure to follow up on my emails demonstrate frankly appalling customer care for a trip that proved to be complete waste of time.
I was picked up at my hotel in Diani and taken to downtown Mombasa with other participants. The tour was excellent as guided by Mr Kombo who translated in both French and English. Mr Timothy Katana at Baobab resort was very knowledgeable about the tours offered and he booked for me the tour guided by Mr Kombo. It was an awesome birthday gift. I am truly indebted to this two men. Highly recommended. Tim New York, USA
We were collected from our hotel and riven to Mombasa where a number of other coaches joined us and we were split up into various groups depending on our language and each group had their own guide. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about everywhere we visited. A special word for the driver who manged to circumnavigate some large traffic jams to enable us to get back to our hotel at a reasonable time
The tour of Mombasa was a good and professional experience. It should deserve 5 dots on Tripadvisor, but 1 dot must be deducted for an awful process of collecting participants from various hotels for over 1 hour. It would have been much better to charge us an additional $$$ per person and avoid that waste of our time. Our guide was of a high quality; very knowledgeable, great personality, good English. The tour hits the most important sites of Mombasa. There is a choice also between a full-day tour and 1/2 a day tour. Please refer to the pictures which I have attached to this message to see for yourself.
Thanks for the great trip. Was definitely worth it. We had a great tour guide and bus driver. Learned a lot about Mombasa's history and culture.
You might be able to go around the town, but it's a lot better to have a local citizen to tell you about the history of the city.
The mombassa city tour booked through the travel company. We visited a Hindu temple, woodcarving village, fortress jesus and the old town. For the price I found the sights offered a bit summary. There was still a lunch included.
The tour comprized Fort Jesus, the old town and the market. I could have managed For Jesus by myself, but guiding gave some stories. The old town I could not have managed myself. The guide showed me the different house styles of the swahili, indian, arab and colonial tie, again with stories. The bazaar and the market Place were worth seeing.
