Bhigwan is a small dusty town on the border of Pune and Solapur district in Central Maharashtra, India. It is located on the Pune – Solapur highway around 105 kilometers from Pune, on the backwaters of Ujani Dam built on the Bhima River. In recent years, Bhigwan has transformed itself into a hot tourist destination especially for wildlife photographers and bird watchers it hosts tourists from all over the country today. What makes Bhigwan special are the thousands of Greater Flamingos that inhabit the fertile waters. The vast shallow expanse of water makes it one of Maharashtra’s best wetlands. Bhigwan today boasts of hosting more than 260 bird species.
