Itinerary

Pass by

After picking up the customers from the different hotels in Punta Cana, we’re gonna make our way to the small village of Sabana de la Mar. Thanks to the new Miches highway, the driving time will be around 1.5 hours and on the way you will have the chance to enjoy beautiful views of the Dominican countryside. Rice, coffee, cocoa and tropical fruit plantations will catch your attention while your guide will provide a lot of interesting information regarding the Dominican culture and traditions.

Admission included25 min

On the way to Sabana de la Mar we will stop in the area of Miches to reach the beautiful Montana Redonda. An isolated 1,000 ft mountain nestled on the shoreline in the northeastern Dominican Republic, Montaña Redonda provides spectacular panoramic views for miles and miles around. It is located in Miches, in the Municipality of the province of El Seibo, and has a beautiful natural landscape and a wonderful 360 degree view.

Pass by

Left Montana Redonda, after an intermediate stop of 15-20 minutes in the village of Las Canitas to use the toilets, smoke or just relax, we will continue our trip towards north, direction Los Haitises National Park. We’ll pass through the town of Sabana de la Mar facing the Samana Bay.

Admission included120 min

After around 1 hour we’ll finally reach the remote National Park of Los Haitises (bear in mind after passing the town of Sabana de la Mar we’ll continue on a dirt road to reach the park). We'll reach the dock of “Cano Hondo”, hop aboard a riverboat and ride through the winding canals of the park’s majestic mangrove forests, an ideal home for hundreds of species of birds, fish, reptiles and crustaceans. Leaving the mangrove forests, the scenery opens up into the San Lorenzo Bay with photo-inspiring views of the park’s lush outcroppings and the mountains of Samana in the distance.  After around 45 minutes we’ll get back to the land. It’s now cave exploration time! You’ll visit a cave called “Cueva de la Linea”, located deeper in the forest and filled with Taino pictographs and petroglyphs that will give you a better sense of how these indigenous people lived before the arrival of Christopher Columbus. After it you will return on our boat to make your way back to the starting point of “Cano Hondo”.

Admission included180 min

At this time you must be hungry! Tuck into a delicious Dominican lunch served at the gorgeous location of Paraiso Caño Hondo. Located at the outskirts of Los Haitises National Park, Paraíso Caño Hondo is an unique Eco-lodge, ranked by Forbes Magazine as one of the 10 BEST ECOLOGICAL DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD! The complex features a number of pools built into and around natural stones that naturally form with water from the park. Lunch is served in an open buffet with a great variety of typical Dominican food and cocktails. After lunch you can take a refreshing dip in the natural pools and relax for a while before getting back to the bus to start our return trip.

Perfect tour for nature lovers.

This was a beautiful excursion. Everything was perfect. From pick up to drop off everything was seamless. It was a small group, with air conditioned van, a very fun and friendly tour guide. The sights were beautiful and amazing. Worth every penny. Lunch was one of the best meals we had on this trip. My husband and I would highly recommend this tour. We would do it again without question!

Bad organisation

The tour was not bad and worth seeing but in terms of organisation it is really poorly organised. This means that a tour that could be done in 8 to 9 hours takes 12 to 13 hours because of the organization and that then in a tour in 4 different languages the same is told

Operator response

Liked the excursion very good

We took the excursion with Susie as the tour guide she was very engaging . The tour was very long but very informative and interesting. Angel was a rookie bus driver that was passed by a 3 legged blind dog. He didn’t drive like a typical Dominican. Which made the day longer.

Operator response

Hi David, thank you for sharing your experience! Los Haitises is definitely a long day trip but totally worth it! best, Claudio

Excursion entertaining

A full tour. The journey from Bavaro to there gets a little long, but it is worth it, the last stretch is a bumpy road that becomes eternal... The excursion through San Lorenzo Bay and the Caño Hondo River is very entertaining, the caves entertained thanks to the explanations of the guide. The right lunch on a beach, visit the pools of the hotel paraiso caño hondo of 1h approx, but more than enough and finally the round mountain, the climb to the top by 4x4 bus discovered, a whole experience and on top the typical swings and very good views of the place. A very complete and entertaining day.

Operator response

Nos gusta saber que el tour te gusto'! La excursion al parque nacional de Los Haitises es sin duda una de las mejores que se pueden hacer saliendo de Punta Cana. Gracias por confirmar! Claudio

We originally booked to...

We originally booked to go to Cano Hondo for lunch but were informed prior to the tour that we will be going to Salto Yanigua Ranch. The ranch ended up being our groups favorite stop from the tour. We really enjoyed our tour guide Joel as well. You could tell he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and what he did. Even though we were gone all day it went by so fast and didn’t feel rushed. I also liked that it didn’t feel over crowded. Would definitely go again and recommend.

Best Tour Ever!!!

We visited Los Haitises, Montaña Redonda, and Paraiso Caño Hondo. The tour includes breakfast and lunch. The tour guide, Nathan spoke in 3 languages (spanish, english and french) he gave all the information (that's amazing) for our benefit. We liked so much the tour that we will recommend it to our friends!

Good day but had to take a different tour

We booked this tour and were excited about it but got a call 2 days before saying there were not enough people booked to be able to do the tour. The tour guide offered an alternative day but we had another excursion that day. They then offered an alternative tour on the same day which we did attend. That tour was very similarly except had a different lunch stop. Overall, it was frustrating to not get the tour we booked but the one we took was still good. The alternative tour did not include lunch cocktails, but the food was cooked over an open fire which was delicious. I’m giving 3 stars mostly because we never got to take the actual tour we booked. But I do give credit to the operator in working hard to find a solution that worked for us in the end. It was as a VERY long day but the Mount Redonda stop, the national park with Mangroves and the cave stop are definitely work seeing.

Operator response

Hi Betty, thank you for sharing your impressions! Unfortunately the other version of the Los Haitises tour was not available that day but we're glad you could still enjoy the alternative one and have a good time. Saludos! LPC Tours staff

Not commercialized.

Great adventure away from everything commercialized. The REAL Dominican Republic. Loved all the stops. Our tour guide Miguel spoke 3 languages. Lots of history and education but the "raw" experiences made this trip the highlight of my vacation. There is alot of driving from punta cana because the forest is so remote, but I didn't mind as it was enjoyable to take in the scenery and look at all the small towns along the way. Lots of stops to break up the trip. AWESOME TOUR.

Operator response

Hi Karl, thank you for your review. Yes the tour of Los Haitises Natural Park is one of the best we offer and allows you to see parts of the country not crowded by tourists. I'm glad you had a good time with us. kind regards, LPC Tours staff
