Guided Rothenburg Day Trip from Frankfurt

Itinerary

120 min

Day trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber from Frankfurt. Having left the access highway in the area of Würzburg we will follow the Romantic Road (country roads) to this unique medieval town. On a walking tour through the picturesque alleyways you will come to see the old frameworked houses and the “Plönlein”, the landmark of Rothenburg. On over cobblestoned streets alongside the beautifully decorated townhouses of the old center, along the Herren-Alley to the mighty city gates and alongside the accessible citywall. The extensive castle gardens offer a splendid panorama view of the valley of the river Tauber.

Admission not included120 min

On to the central marketplace with its mighty Renaissance town hall, and St. Jacobs Church to see the altar of Tilman Riemenschneider, one of the most outstanding artists of the Middle Ages. We recommend to visit as well one of the very worth seeing museums of Rothenburg: The medieval crime museum, the history vault or the museum of German Christmas. To see Rothenburg is an incredible journey through time. And a special place for beautiful souvenirs: wood carvings, glasses, Christmas decorations, beer mugs and even cuckoo clocks. Culinary recommended: the "snowball" of sweet shortcrust pastry.

Castles, Castles and Castles

A slow cruise along the Rhine Valley with castles appearing on the both the sides every few minutes. And a story about the castle. Very relaxing. and very very Scenic. Also, we had informed well in advance that we are vegetarians, and a very sumptuous lunch had been arranged for us.

Fabulous day out

A fabulous day out with a great driver/guide. Very informative commentary along the way. Heidelberg and Rothenburg were beautiful places to visit. Great fun experiencing the autobahn between towns.

Awesome Day In Rothenburg!

4 of us in a Van to Rothenburg. Thomas was the guide. About 2 1/2 hours from Frankfurt. Spent 4 hours in Rothenburg. First 2 hours walking around with Thomas narrated. Also, a visit to a Medieval Museum. Probably 20 minutes of the 2 hours. Then 2 hours on our own. Lunch took about an hour at an Italian Restaurant to eat Pizza. Then an hour to walk around and take pictures and window shop. Thomas was gracious enough as we were leaving town to take us to an area of the town wall that we could spend about 15 minutes to climb the steep steps and walk a couple of minutes along the covered walkway atop the wall. Highly recommend this part of the trip. So, after approximately 4 hours and 15-20 minutes in Rothenburg we headed back to Frankfurt . The trip back to Frankfurt was slightly over 2 hours instead of 2 1/2 hours going mainly because Thomas did not have to narrate as much and also a faster trip on the Auto Bahn and less traffic. In the end an outstanding day and way to see Rothenburg when you are seeing a city a day on vacation. Finally, Thomas our guide was exceptional!

Avoid a FRA Viator tour if they use ETS tours as contractor

Due to this tour being cancelled last minute due to not having enough participants, we were offered the Baden Baden tour instead. So, this review is for that trip since I did not get an updated booking/reservation. The Baden Baden, Black Forest tour was horrible! Unsafe driving, tour guide (Willie) was horrible and spoke more about other vehicle license plates (the entire day) and very few remarks about history or culture. Late starting the tour, to get gas! Rushed through every stop, no time to go into a shop/bakery or get lunch. Willie, who was the driver and tour guide made a personal stop to drop something off while we sat in the van. Seems he was more focused on his own agenda. Don’t waste your money! Regarding my unsafe comment, he was traveling 160-180 kilometers on the autobahn in a severe rain storm. Cutting other cars off and getting many jesters from angry drivers. Avoid!

An exciting informative tour

Thomas was cordial and very knowledgeable about the entire area even on the autobahn. He gave info about towns and famous people making the 2 hour ride seem much shorter. The trip was delightful.
