My family visited the butterfly conservatory today and it was a great experience! The volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable about the different butterflies, frogs, and turtles that were there. We got to see hundreds of beautiful butterflies on the tour while they explained information about each type. There is an option to hike the river trail after the tour and it was some beautiful scenery. The only reason I did not give full 5 stars was because this hike was a little treacherous at some points due to slippery ground, high steps, exposed tree roots, and no rails or anything on the sides. Totally fine for fit/moderately fit people. The trail specifically would be a challenge for older people, young kids, or people with mobility issues. The butterfly portion itself was not a challenge though and they were so pretty to see up close! We also saw some lizards and small snakes on the trails.
Nice day with butterflies. If you are in El Castillo, this is a nice way to spend a few hours. The guides were very nice and very informative.
This was a nice way to spend an afternoon. We saw so many interesting kinds of butterflies, frogs, plants, etc. The conservation work they are doing is outstanding, and I was happy to pay for a tour that supports them.
The butterfly conservatory was a great opportunity to learn about butterflies and more, native to Costa Rica. While some of the facilities have started to show their age, the staff were knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife.
What a cool little place in El Castillo!I had no idea there were that many species of butterflies! We learned a lot and saw even more! We even saw howler monkeys playing in the trees on the included river walk! Very cool place!
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here - a lil gem of a conservatory. We arrived late so had shorter experience than i would've liked. The owner was super kind and said that we could come back again the next for free, unfortunately our schedule was already full. Our guide was Alora (Alura?) who was very knowledgable and volunteering from Florida! We saw the butterfly tents as well as the frogs + reptile tent and learned lots of cool facts. The butterfly tents was my favourite part for sure! The admission is a bit pricey but glad to pay it as it's going for a good cause and company.
A bit of a drive from La Fortuna but well worth it. This is a wonderful not for profit organisation that is regenerating the rainforest. We went on a rainy day but it didn't affect anything. Recommend to wear sneakers especially if you are going to do the rainforest river walk. We saw so many beautiful butterflies, colorful frogs, some turtles and many beautiful flowers. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. The owner is very passionate about the work they are doing. I can't say enough good things about the Butterfly Conservatory.
This was a great experience. The staff and volunteer was very knowledgeable and helpful. After we went through the butterfly and frog section me and my friend took the 25 minute hike through forest. If you have bad knees I would opt for the shorter hike. We saw an iguana by the bridge which was cool.
We really liked the Butterfly Conservatory in Arenal. There was a lot of information about the insect world, especially butterflies.
Our tour was very interesting. Our tour guide was a volunteer and very knowledgeable about all the exhibits. We saw beautiful butterflies and learned a lot.
Thank you for your visit to the Arenal Butterfly Conservatory, we are pleased that you were very happy with our tour. However, a little confused as to why you gave the tour 4 rather than 5. We work hard to offer the best Eco-tourism experience possible, and your feedback would be valuable to us.
