Scenic Journey from Geneva to Gruyères Travel through some of Switzerland’s most breathtaking landscapes as you leave Geneva behind. Follow the shores of Lake Geneva, with sweeping views of the French Alps reflected in the water, before passing through the UNESCO-listed vineyards of Lavaux. Continue along the Riviera towns of Vevey and Montreux, known for their elegance and lakeside charm, before ascending toward the green rolling hills of the Canton of Fribourg, home of the legendary Gruyère cheese. A scenic introduction to the heart of Swiss countryside.
Arriving to La Maison du Gruyère, the birthplace of Switzerland’s most iconic cheese. Discover how authentic Gruyère AOP is crafted using traditional methods passed down through generations, from fresh Alpine milk to carefully aged wheels stored to perfection. Learn what makes the region’s milk so exceptional — shaped by mountain pastures, seasonal grazing, and strict quality standards. Conclude your visit with a guided tasting of Gruyère at different stages of maturation, experiencing how texture and flavor evolve over time.
For lunch, savor a traditional Swiss fondue moitié-moitié prepared according to the standards perfected by Damien Raemy, world champion and master cheesemaker from Fribourg. Crafted from exceptional regional cheeses, this iconic Alpine dish captures the true essence of Swiss gastronomy — best enjoyed with panoramic views over the valley below.
Step back in time with a visit to the 800-year-old Gruyères Castle and its beautifully preserved medieval village. Wander along cobbled streets, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and take in sweeping views of the surrounding Alps as the gentle sound of cowbells echoes across the valley. Within the village, you may also visit the HR Giger Museum, dedicated to the visionary artist behind the Alien films. For the curious minds who loves art, visit the one and only exhibition of HR Giger, the creator of the Alien movies. At the end of the tour, you can get comfortable in our spacious seats, and take a nap while we are heading back to your hotel!
Continue to Maison Cailler, Switzerland’s oldest chocolate brand and one of the country’s most beloved producers. The immersive museum experience takes you on a journey through the history of chocolate from its origins in ancient Mesoamerica to the refinement of Swiss chocolate-making traditions. Discover the artistry and craftsmanship behind Cailler’s creations before entering the tasting room, where you can sample a variety of freshly crafted chocolates. Great experience. The van was comfortable, and Gabor had the timing down so that we were able to enjoy each stop and avoided crowds. He was knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed the cheese factory, chocolate factory and palace very much! Also loved Gruyeres - very quaint village.
It was an amazing tour. Our tour guide Gabor was very knowledgeable and made the experience very nice. A Great day was had by all. We highly recommend this tour and Gabor
Our tour guide- Gabor provided wonderful insights and knowledge on the Gruyere Cheese factory and Chocolate (Callier) factory. Also on our 1.5 hour drive from Geneva to the Cheese and chocolate factories he pointed out landmarks and interesting facts along the way as we experienced the lovely scenery! Highlights -The Medieval Village of Gruyère Cheese and its history. The chocolate factory which reminded me of the Willy Wonka factory entering the different rooms and the doors would close after you… Recommend the Alien cafe and HR Giger museum a must visit if you’re a Sci fi fan and enjoyed the Alien movies!
Gabor was our tour guide and he was fabulous! He was very knowledgeable and knew a lot about the history of The Gruyère castle, the Gruyère cheese factory and the chocolate factory along with the sightseeing along the way! If / when we come back to Geneva, we would request him again!
Gabor was a wonderful tour guide. Highly recommend the trip. Our family had a great time. The cheese and chocolate was delicious.
Gruyere is highly recommended. It’s such a lovely medieval town. And the cheese and chocolate factory visit were very interesting. The only problem was that we were told on the phone that lunch was included and it was not. We would have done the other trip with a train ride instead.
We enjoyed the trip very much…spectacular views, engaging activities, and interesting historical information….Gabor was a wonderful tour guide.
This was a nice trip out of Geneva with our guide Gabor in a comfortable minivan. The Gruyère cheese factory tour was informative including samples. The visit to Gruyère Castle was very scenic and the chateau was set up to imagine the history of the place. Views were stunning. Topping that off with a visit to the Callier chocolate factory was perfect. They have a unique tour experience and there is no shortage of product to sample. This was a nice way to spend the day in the Geneva Lake region.
This was a very nice day for a day trip out of Geneva. Our guide Gabor was very nice and knowledgeable. The small group was a nice bonus after a whole week with 34 people on the bus. We loved the cheese factory, the castle visit, the lunch and the chocolate. Even with the unexpected event in the area and road restrictions, Gabor found a way to get us to everything. We loved the tour.
. Worth it. Diverse attractions close to each other so easy access and time efficient. Take rain gear
