Group Tour: Gyumri (Urban Life museum, Black fortress, old town), Harichavank

Had this tour with Arpi (the best English speaking tour guide) and Karen (one of the best drivers). The entirety of this tour was deeply educational in terms of regional history, culture, religious traditions, and even Armenian Pop Culture tidbits related to famous actors and lives of famous poets and writers. I could tell that Arpi is a really knowledgeable person based on the research that she had done to prepare her speech, and it turned out that she holds a PHD in Philology and is a university professor on top of being a tour guide. So, make sure you seek all the tours with her if you want a wise and experienced guide who speaks British English and Russian excellently (coming from a person who speaks both). There was no hesitation or filler sounds in her speech and her diction was clear, which made the whole tour more entertaining. If you’re from Hyur Service, give them a raise, and if you’re a tourist, make sure to ask for them! Thank you for the wonderful tour, dear Arpi and Karen!

I have been involved with a number of tours of the sights of Armenia with this company. We ride in a comfortable bus, and there are so many breathtaking places to see in this beautiful country. If you have the opportunity to come to Armenia and to patronize the services of Hyur, you must ask for Anush to be your guide. She is a living fountain of knowledge pertaining to all things Armenia, and her knowledge and experience breathes life into the adventure, whether you’re looking at a centuries old monastery, the bustling streets of Yerevan, or the emerald green hills of the Armenian highlands. Besides her personal knowledge, Anush has an excellent sense of humor and is patient with our sometimes rowdy and often slow-walking group. She is also a gifted singer! If you don’t ask her to sing for you in the glorious acoustics of the Geghardavank Monastery, it would be a pity. It was absolutely like a gift from heaven. And in all of our groups’ adventures, we were assisted by our fearless driver Hyke, who drives with as much skill and finesse as a pilot or Formula One driver! We love them both!

She shared the history of the city in a clear and interesting way, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Our trip from Yerevan to Gyumri with the hire service was amazing. The driver, Spartak, and our guide, Rose, were incredibly accommodating and made our experience wonderful. They introduced us to a local dish called Kyala — cow’s head cooked in a traditional tonir (an underground wood-fired oven). It was surprisingly delicious. At the end, they even give you the option to scramble the brains with eggs — amazing! Highly recommend
