Itinerary
Drive through different districts of Tallinn to grasp better the possibilities outside the Old Town.
The calm and friendly small town of Haapsalu, located less than 2-hour’s drive from the capital, enjoys a long standing history as a spa resort. Modern Haapsalu hosts a number of international festivals and is home to charming restaurants. Haapsalu is a wonderful little town with narrow streets, a miniature town hall and romantic wooden dwelling houses. On the romantic seaside promenade stands Kuursaal, one of the finest wooden buildings in Estonia. Once in Haapsalu, don’t forget to browse for a traditional hand-woven woollen Haapsalu shawl with fine and elegant patterns.
A recently renovated museum introducing the medieval history of the castle. Haapsalu Castle is an architectural pearl built in the 13th century, which until the end of the 17th century was the seat of power of the local authorities. This is one of the best-preserved castles in Estonia and home to the most famous ghost in Estonia – the White Lady!
Located north of the coastal town of Haapsalu, Noarootsi peninsula appeal to travellers with their untouched nature and Scandinavian feel. Coastal Swedes inhabited these western Estonian areas for hundreds of years, leaving behind a wealth of history and traditions. Home to Estonia’s oldest and smallest wooden church, it borders three nature reserve areas, a safe haven for local flora and fauna. The Noarootsi peninsula draws in visitors also for its beautiful sandy beach, pine tree forest and is considered one of the best places for birdwatching in Estonia. Nõva Nature Reserve is a beautiful quiet place in the summertime and quite busy with bird-watchers during migratory seasons in the spring and autumn.
Paldiski, located on the Pakri Peninsula, was one of the most important army bases for both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Come and see for yourself how the town, which used to be a closed Soviet nuclear submarine study centre, has changed. Also worth a visit are the main building of the Paldiski train station, which is the best preserved station building in Estonia (closest to the original building). For a long time, the Pakri Peninsula was closed off for the general public as it was used by the Soviet Army. This has lent a certain mystique to the place and given way to a lot of legends. Among other treats, visitors come here for the limestone cliffs and a unique lighthouse.
After the recently completed thorough restoration, the monastery is open to visitors again. The monastery was built by the Cistercians in the 14th century and is the only preserved Cistercian monastery in Northern Europe.
On the way back to Tallinn we’ll pass one beautiful waterfall and take a stroll around the river. Keila waterfall is the third largest waterfall in Estonia; after the Narva and Jägala waterfalls. There is a road from the park along the riverbed, crossing two suspension bridges, to the waterfall.

Our guide Juhan was very kind and provided us with many details about the history of Estonia and interesting facts about the sites we visited. Spectacular natural views of the waterfall and the bird observatory. The walk through Haapsalu was very pleasant. Overall, a highly recommended experience, as well as the video they made of us during the tour.
Thank you. It was my pleasure.
A most enjoyable day touring the west coast of Estonia with Juhan, exploring a very different country - one of forests, small settlements and remote coastlines - compared to that which lies in and around the old town of Tallinn. Juhan was a mine of information about the areas that we were visting and Estonia more generally which greatly enhanced our experience. He was also a nice safe, smooth driver.
Thank you for spending the day exploring Estonia with us.
Wonderful to see some of Western Estonia. Our guide, Juhan, made it a perfect day. He had a great itinerary that allowed us to see even more than we hoped for. Juhan is very knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor, and is a really nice person. Couldn't recommend the trip enough.
Thank you. It was a pleasure to host you on this special day out on the west coast.
Juhan had everything perfectly organised for our day trip to Haapsalu with several stops along the Western coast - really everything, up to the weather. 😉 The contact before was prompt, flexible and uncomplicated. Juhan is a very knowledgable and sociable guide. It was a great tour with its nicest moments captured in a fun little video. Thanks for this additional memory of a great and sunny day.
Thank you for bringing the perfect weather with you.
Our tour guide and driver, Juhan, is an excellent guide. He is very knowledgeable and good driver. We enjoyed very much of every stop.
Thank you very much.
The driver was well versed on his history. We enjoyed our day traveling amongst beauty together. The nature and waterfalls were beautiful. This was my favorite excursion during my Estonian visit.
Thank you for the lovely day.
Incredible tour. We learned a ton about the history of this amazing place, saw the most beautiful views, and had a great lunch (with some special souvenir shopping) in the quaint town of Haapsalu. Our guide was wonderful.
Thank you. The west coast of Estonia is pretty special and always interesting to explore.
The tour guide is an amazing person, has a lot of knowledge to share and will adapt the tour to your needs and interests. Will highly recommend this tour! Estonia is a beautiful country, why would you want to visit beyond Tallinn?
Thank you for exploring the different sides of Estonia during this day trip.
Taking Juhan's tour was one of the best decisions I made for my first trip to Estonia. You get to see so much outside of Tallinn. We highly recommend this tour! You will see everything in the Itinerary. Haapsalu was the highlight of the day! We took both west and east tours from Juhan, and they are extremely worth it.
Thank you for taking the time to see more of Estonia and going for two different day trips with us.
Fantastic tour. Juhan was a wonderful guide. Juhan is a native Estonian who grew up in the country he loves. We traveled west to the Baltic Sea, visiting several small towns and stopping at a couple of different vantage points to take pictures. He knows Estonian history and great places to visit. He even helped me find my mother's home in Tallinn, where she lived with her parents before WWII began. Wonderful tour!
Thank you visiting Estonia and making the tour memorable by exploring some less known locations.
