Opened in 1943 during World War II, the theater started life as an art-house cinema in Mexico City. With a growing French presence in the city, it quickly became a favorite haunt for stylish “dandies” looking to relax. Over the decades, however, the venue took on a very different identity, transforming into a legendary adult theater popular with gay men. As you'll see, this is still a place where Mexican men gather, the rules are flexible, curiosity is welcome, and almost anything can happen.

1901 was the first well-documented public visibility of cross-dressing in the city. Now, it is viewed by the local LGBTQ+ community as a foundational pillar in the queer story. By the 2000s, Mexican drag scene transitioned into an emergence of voguing collectives and brought New York-style ballroom and underground drag to the streets of the capital. Drags shows along with great food make this place a must-stop. Transportation time between venues is included.

Housed within a beautifully restored historic mansion, this vibrant LGBTQ+ cultural hub emerged in its current form in 2023, following an extensive post-pandemic revival. Today, it serves as a dynamic community space, bringing together LGBTQ+ art exhibitions, cultural events, cocktails, and celebration. More than just a venue, it is a welcoming gathering place where creativity, community, and connection thrive.

What makes the place stand out is its intentionally immersive design. Instead of a single dance floor, the space is divided into multiple rooms and levels with different moods, lighting, textures, and music. Several people describe it as futuristic, nostalgic, and sensual at the same time, with contemporary queer art integrated throughout the venue. The concept behind the bar is strongly tied to LGBTQ+ self-expression and community. The founders frame it as a tribute to generations who imagined a freer and more open queer future in Mexico City. The name “Abrazarnos” (“to embrace each other”) reflects that philosophy of connection, intimacy, and chosen community. A new generation of queer spaces in Mexico City — less about hiding, more about curating identity, aesthetics, intimacy, and community.

Founded in June 1986, El Taller has remained as one of Mexico City's most legendary LGBTQ+ nightclubs. At the time, it brought the "San Francisco-style" masculine, industrial aesthetic that broke away from traditional stereotypes. It’s known for its drag performances, cabaret-style entertainment, gogo dancers, karaoke, and dance nights that attract a largely local crowd.
