Itinerary
At the Galveston Naval Museum, you can step right into history while enjoying some of the best waterfront views in Galveston. Explore two real WWII vessels—the submarine USS Cavalla (SS-244), nicknamed the Lucky Lady, and the destroyer escort USS Stewart (DE-238), the Protector. You’ll walk the same decks sailors once did and get a hands-on feel for life at sea during wartime. Beyond these iconic ships, you’ll also see the sail of the USS Tautog (SSN-639) and the conning tower of the USS Carp (SS-338), both showcasing milestones in submarine technology and honoring the men who served beneath the waves. As you explore, take a moment to enjoy the sweeping views of Galveston Harbor—ships passing by, seabirds overhead, and the perfect backdrop for photos. Whether you’re a history buff, a family looking for a unique day out, or just someone who enjoys a great waterfront view, the museum offers a memorable experience you won’t find anywhere else.

Our grandsons enjoyed walking through the sub and ship. They loved seeing up close how the sub worked.
Thank you for visiting our museum and sharing these important pieces of history with your grandsons. We are so happy you all enjoyed, have a great summer!
It's the tour! We went for Father's Day 2026. The whole family enjoyed the experience of seeing what our Navy men and women experienced and the technology they used in the world wars! The whole family enjoyed it!
Thank you for your kind words, we are glad you and your family enjoyed your visit.
Two great WWII vessels to tour. Highly recommend the museum.
Thank you for touring our museum, we are so happy you enjoyed your visit.
Even though it was pouring down rain, we still loved exploring the ship and submarine. I would highly recommend this place for a picnic on a nice day. Definitely plan on returning.
Thank you for visiting us, especially on a rainy day. We sincerely appreciate your business and look forward to you returning.
Great experience. We enjoyed self guided tour as we could spend more time at spots that interested us more.
Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy you enjoyed your visit.
Sub was really fascinating. Rainy day but still a good experience. History there was very interesting.
Thank you Cheryl for your review. We are happy you enjoyed your visit. Please visit us again soon!
As a history buff, I was not disappointed. The only regret is there are usually restrictions on where you can go on the ship. Couldn’t see the bridge or CIC. They built up the area well and made it interesting.you really have to see a destroyer escort to believe how small it was. The brave men who served on them in WWII were courageous and -brave. Thanks for for honoring our veterans.
We are pleased you enjoyed your visit. We encourage you to come back for a visit in the fall and book a Hard Hat tour. These tours allow guests access to spaces closed to the public, including CIC, Bridge, and engine spaces. Thank you again for your business.
We did the HARD HAT TOUR and it was so worth it! It so happened that we were the only couple on the tour this day and I was so glad. My husband started feeling sick half way through and we had the most wonderful young man named Brent, who helped him and totally took his time with us. We weren’t able to tour the destroyer so Brent sat on a park bench with us and pointed out and described as much as he could from the outside. Brent saved the tour for us, making it one of our best tours in Galveston.
Thank you for visiting and for your kind words. We are so happy you enjoyed your tour, even with your difficult circumstances. We hope you'll visit again soon.
Many historical facts and stories posted throughout this area helped make this experience enjoyable. Maps and small scale ships along with maneuverable guns were all enjoyable parts.
We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit with us. Thank you for helping us preserve history.
Very interesting. Have to see. Take the family learn some history. We loved this.
