Galle Fort Walk with Glamorous Stories

Description
Join me, for a 120-minute immersive tour of Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Starting at the Old Harbour—where Chinese, Arab, and European traders anchored—we’ll trace colonial history from Portuguese clay forts to Dutch stone walls. Explore bastions like Moon and Star, and landmarks such as the Dutch Reformed Church (1755), built as a vow for a child’s birth. Discover how the fort’s walls withstood the 2004 tsunami, sparing it while devastating Galle City. Walk through the Dutch Hospital, now a vibrant cuisine hub. Learn about VOC trade, hidden tunnels, and coral cooling walls. Hear tales of Portuguese sieges where soldiers survived on cats and dogs. See ballast bricks from Dutch ships and how foreign investments reshape this living heritage. From Flag Rock’s lighthouse ruins to tsunami survival stories, I’ll blend history with local lore. With 20 years’ expertise, this journey through resilience, architecture, and cultural fusion promises unforgettable insights.

Excellent well informed guide with very easy listening English. We learned a lot about the three colonialists and the development of Galle. Very enjoyable
We had an early morning walking tour of Galle Fort with Dilip and it was very informative and enjoyable. Dilip is an engaging and knowledgeable guide who is able to answer all questions fully and has a comprehensive record of the buildings of the town.
Excellent and informative walk. Dilip was very friendly and knowledgeable and brought the place to life. Highly recommend
Dilip gave us a great tour around Galle Fort. He was full of history about the Portuguese, Dutch and English influences. It was a nice paced stroll around , finishing with the lowering of the fort flag and sunset. He was easy to communicate prior to the tour,
Dilip was very informative and we enjoyed learning about the history from the Portuguese to the present day, as well as wandering the streets looking at the architecture.
Dilip knows a lot about the history of the fort. He showed us every aspect of this beautiful place. We really enjoyed our tour with him! I can recommend!
We booked Dilip via our local tour operators who clearly knew he was going to be good! Our family (with kids 13 and 11) enjoyed walking around Galle with Dilip learning about the history of the buildings and area. Dilip has excellent knowledge of the area and was able to answer all of our questions. It was great walking with a local guide (Dilip is from Galle), so as we walked we were able to learn about the effects of the tsunami, and other cultural aspects of the city.
The tour was very informative and we enjoyed Dilip’s company very much. I would definitely recommend him for your tour of the Galle Fort!
Very personable young man with good knowledge of the fort at Galle. He spoke good English and although it was pouring with rain and some thunder and lightning we still managed the tour!!
Thank you so much for your encouraging comment. You were an impressive young couple. Actually, I was deeply shocked that our tour was unable to continue after a halfway. Anyway, wish you all the best!
I was looking for a low-key tour of Galle Fort, and could not have done better! Dilip paired me with another solo traveler, which made for a wonderfully personal tour of the historic site. As a local, Dilip has a deep knowledge of the Fort, and he shared many wonderful anecdotes from his own experiences. It was a terrific way to learn all about the history and life of Galle. Even after the tour concluded, Dilip joined me for refreshments and we continued our conversation. It was a great way to spend the morning in Galle with a genuinely nice guy - I recommend highly.
You are one of the landmarks in my memory. First you gave me over three-times of financial support gave me than the mentioned small fee on my TripAdvisor account that time as I was not able to access it to edit, due a technical error. Later I identified the your sympathetic nature from its roots while having a long chat after the tour. You were proving during the walk that how your active, hilarious character is matching to be a serious generous social activist to emolliate the suffered people in your home country. Wish you long life and good health from the bottom of the heart and willing to meet you some day in your home country!
