Dharma Bakti Temple holds a rich history dating back to its establishment in the early 17th century. Initially built as a place of worship for the Chinese community, it stands as a testament to Jakarta's cultural diversity and the enduring legacy of centuries-old traditions.
Old Town Batavia transports you to Jakarta's colonial past. Established during the Dutch East Indies era, the cobblestone streets and preserved architecture echo tales of spice trade, colonial governance, and the vibrant life that once thrived in this historical quarter.
Immerse yourself in the ancient art of Wayang Kulit (shadow puppetry) at Makutharama Puppet Studio. This traditional form of storytelling has deep roots in Indonesian culture, depicting mythological tales that have been passed down through generations.
Sunda Kelapa Harbor has been a vital trade center for centuries, dating back to the 14th century. Explore the harbor's storied past as a bustling port for spice trade and witness the enduring presence of traditional Indonesian schooners known as "Pinisi." This is also where "Jakarta" first started.
Nestled in Jakarta, Simpang Raya is a Padang culinary haven. Steeped in Minangkabau charm, the restaurant exudes warmth. Known for its authentic Padang fare, Simpang Raya serves up iconic dishes like aromatic Rendang and flavorful Nasi Padang. The communal dining experience lets you savor diverse flavors, reflecting Indonesia's culinary richness. With traditional decor and attentive staff, Simpang Raya isn't just a restaurant – it's a brief escape to Padang's culinary heart. Indulge in the best of Padang cuisine at Simpang Raya, where every bite tells a tale of Indonesia's vibrant culinary heritage.
Built to commemorate Indonesia's independence, Istiqlal Mosque stands as a monumental representation of national pride. Completed in 1978, its grand architecture and sprawling courtyard can accommodate up to 200,000 worshippers. The mosque's name, "Istiqlal," translates to "Independence" in Arabic, emphasizing its significance in the nation's history. The interior showcases exquisite Islamic art, while the towering minaret and massive dome contribute to the mosque's awe-inspiring presence on Jakarta's skyline.
Merdeka Square, also known as Lapangan Merdeka, is the heart of Jakarta and witnessed the historic proclamation of Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945. Surrounded by significant landmarks like the National Museum and government buildings, the square is a focal point for national celebrations and cultural events. The iconic Monas (National Monument) stands proudly at its center, adding to the symbolic importance of this expansive public space. (Drive Through)
Conclude your tour with a photostop at Monas, the towering National Monument that dominates Jakarta's skyline. Standing at 132 meters, Monas was inaugurated in 1975 to commemorate Indonesia's struggle for independence. The monument's golden flame symbolizes the nation's resilience and determination. Ascend to the observation deck for panoramic views of the city, providing a visual journey through Jakarta's historical and modern landscapes.
Adjacent to Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta Cathedral is a testament to religious harmony. Constructed in the neo-Gothic style, this Catholic cathedral was built in 1901 and reflects the architectural influences of the Dutch colonial period. The juxtaposition of Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral symbolizes Indonesia's commitment to unity in diversity, showcasing the harmonious coexistence of different faiths within the nation.

Great way to see Jakarta when your stay is limited to three days. The traffic is incredibly congested and not being familiar with Indonesia, I preferred to have a professional guide. It was just my husband and myself, so we enjoyed a private tour.
Nice tour of highlights of Jakarta. My guide Rana included an extra stop of visiting the elementary school US President Barack Obama attended for two years when he lived in Indonesia. I really appreciated that. We visited the National Monument, the city’s major mosque and major cathedral, the port district, the old town with many buildings of the Dutch colonial era, a puppet theater where we received a presentation on puppet making and saw a great many types and styles of puppets (two of which I purchased as souvenirs), and Chinatown where I enjoyed a wonderful lunch. A very enjoyable day!
Pleasant Guide and driver, however felt rushed and did not spend the amount of time at places as advertised (or didn’t want to). Missed puppet display as we arrived at the end. No souvenir? Lunch was pleasant. Not a full day tour and not value for money in my opinion.Paid US$256 for a couple.
Our guide, Gabby, did a great job explaining things. Her English was clear. We took this tour rather than one offered by our cruise ship. After talking with people back on the ship, we made a great decision. We scheduled this for 9am and were back to the ship by 3pm. Great driver too. It was Sunday so the morning traffic was very light. The puppet "show" was short but the puppet maker gave a great introduction to his well made puppets.
I have no idea who selected the places that are on the tour but the 1st temple we didn't even got out of the vehicle because it was so filthy. The Port was worse and we didn't get out either. There was not a puppet show or anything like that, just an explanation on how they are made. The food was basic. MONAS wasn't even open. Jakarta is definitely not a tourist city at all. Wouldn't recommend this tour to anyone.
My solo trip was tailored to someone with mobility issues. I appreciated all the help I got from the guide and the driver to see as much as I could manage. The tour combined history, culture and sightseeing, plus a good Indonesian cuisine meal. Loved the puppet workshop and performance.
Our guide and driver were amazing! We were taken to wonderful locations, ate amazing food, and learnt about the history. Would highly recommend.

The itinerary was well organized such that the places were situated near were group together. My guide, Gabriella was very conversant on the history and culture of Jakarta and made me appreciate its history and people. The food was a great glimpse of the complex cuisine of the Javanese people. Both Driver Lanto and Gabrielle were very helpful and accommodating. Great experience!

The tour guide, Gabriella was fantastic. Our private trip included all the things in the itinerary- religious to heritage- from puppets to architectural details. We took long time at each place and she made sure that she does not hurry us. She had good communication skills in English and was aware of many details, small back stories, chronological understanding, cultural languages of each site. She was also very patient and easy about time. From Glodok China town to Vihara Dharma Bhakti temple, the wayang Kulit workshop and performance, the old port, national museums square and the beautiful, authentic lunch at Simpang Raya (she took care of authentic vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian!) the mosque and Cathedral, everything was very well planned. Thank you Viator for managing the logistics also very well. 👌🏾 special thanks to both the guide and the driver! 👌🏾👌🏾🫡🫡
