Itinerary
Your interpreter guide will be waiting with a name board. We will take a train for about one hour to Nakatsugawa.
I'm taking the bus to Magome.
The post town sits on a sloped area that stretches for about 600 meters. The road is paved with stones, and lined with houses that evoke the richness of Japan's history. Take a stroll around Magome where visitors will find a large waterwheel, old Japanese folk houses, historical stone monuments, and more. After exploring Magome, you will take a bus to the starting point of the trekking route.
The tour will walk approximately 3.3 kilometers along the Nakasendo Trail which connects the 2 beautiful post towns of Magome and Tsumago. The tour will take a stroll while enjoying the beautiful valley and rural area scenery with stone-paved streets and Japanese cedar trees. *Due to disaster recovery work being conducted on sections of the Nakasendo Trail, the walking experience may be canceled, and transportation for part or all of this section of the tour may be made via bus.
Tsumago is Japan's first post town to preserve its district, creating an area that has seemingly stopped in time 400 years ago.
From Nagiso Station, you will take a train back to Nagoya Station.

Ochi was such a kind and thoughtful guide on our Nakasendo Trail tour. The walk between the post towns was beautiful, and ending in Tsumagojuku was unforgettable. He made the experience relaxing, informative, and very enjoyable!
Ochi is one of the best guides we’ve had so far in Japan. He is outgoing and so friendly and knowledgeable. He took us around Nagoya on the Nakasendo trail.
We had the most amazing trip today with Lily, our guide with Sunrise Tours, Lily was absolutely incredible , not only with her knowledge, but her kindness and caring that she showed to us was Next Level, absolutely wonderful !!!! 👏🙏. We were extra lucky as well to have Lily with only the 2 of us on our full day 7 hours journey, This tour was everything and more , the old ancient Shogun city of Magome and surrounding post towns was beautiful and such an amazing place to visit along with the oldest bridge in Japan which was over 600 years old!! We had the Best Guide we could of wished for!! and Lily spoke English very well also!! We rate this trip 10 out of 10 ! And we would highly recommend Lily from Sunrise Tours, as this adventure was unbelievable!!! ⛩️🇯🇵🫶
星5つ、強くお勧めします。5 stars, highest recomended. We did the one hour walk with our English speaking guide Aki (あき) Starting with a wander around Magome, taking a local bus and doing a 1 hour hike from the falls into Tsugawa-juku. Every part of it was a delight. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable of the area and to my benefit the local flora. We were there during the blooming of the cherries and the peaches with a large variety of spring flowers also. So many wonderful shops and incredibly friendly locals. If you are there seasonally please enjoy some chestnut ice cream as it is quite delicious. Five Star ratings all around. An amazing day of nature and historic culture in Japan. Highly recommend would do again.
This was a fantastic adventure. Satomi was very organised, having all of our transport arranged and keeping us updated on our itinerary and where we needed to be. It made for a flawless day. The tour itself was a mix of very reasonable short walks while exploring a range of scenery. The food Satomi recommended was also a hit. Thank you for showing us a good day!
We had an incredible time with our guide Satomi-san. She was very friendly and easy to talk to as well as having excellent knowledge regarding the Kisoji Nakasendo Trail and surrounding post-towns histories. We learnt so much and ate delicious foods at Satomi-sans recommendations. This was by far one of the best experiences we've had in Japan so far!
The tour was wonderful and our guide Yuriko was very helpful, knowledgeable. We loved seeing this older part of Japan where the samurai traveled. We enjoyed this tour so much !
Right from the start we felt in tune with the guide and has always been available to answer any of our curiosity. We visited another magnificent side of Japan with a fantastic and knowledgeable guide! Great lunch at Magome! Everything perfect!
What a fantastic day we had from start to finish! Yama-san took care of all of the travel details and provided us with such interesting stories and facts about the region. Magome was so quaint and beautiful and the trail hike after was superb - so special!. Yama-san’s enthusiasm was delightful - even as we walked in pouring rain! An excellent day - would highly recommend this tour. Arigato Yama-san!
An excellent guide. Fun and very enjoyable. Very interesting proposed visits. It introduces you to Japanese culture and is understandable.
