Itinerary
The name of this monastery is translated as the "Monastery of the Cross." Jvari Monastery is the 6th-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta. Along with other historic structures of Mtskheta, it is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Jvari Monastery stands on the rocky mountain top at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the kingdom of Iberia.
A masterpiece of Georgian architecture from the 11th century. About 10-15 minute walk from the parking. Mtskheta, one of the oldest cities in Georgia, was founded by the ancient Meschian tribes in the 5th century. UNESCO recognizes it as a World Heritage site due to it's historical significance and several cultural monuments. It was the capital of the early Georgian Kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. However, Mtskheta remained to serve as the coronation and burial place for most kings of Georgia until the 19th century. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (the Cathedral of the Living Pillar) is currently the second-largest church in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Known as the burial site of Christ's robe, Svetitskhoveli has been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region.
The Stalin Museum in Joseph Stalins hometown Gori includes more than 60 000 artifacts, the tiny house where Stalin was born and an impressive bulletproof train that he used to travel to Yalta and Potsdam, which you are able to go inside. Please note that entrance to the Stalin Museum is not included in the tour price. The ticket costs approximately 15 GEL and can be purchased on site if you choose to visit.
Uplistsikhe dates to the helinistic period and is notable for its unique combination of various styles of rock-cut architecture, including both pagan and Christian. Entrance to Uplistsikhe cave town is not included. Tickets cost around 15 GEL and are paid on site if you wish to explore the area.
We stop by the Chronicles of Georgia on the way back. The huge monument also has incredible views over both Tbilisi City and Tbilisi Sea

My husband and I had the most amazing excursion out of Tbilisi. Zura was so knowledgeable and friendly. 100% recommend… A+
Superb day tour from Tbilisi to a number of interesting sites, including the slightly surreal Stalin museum. Zura, my guide, was exceptional and made the experience both informative and fun. Highly recommended.
We decided to book this Tour to explore a bit more of the history and culture outside of Tiblisi. Zura was an excellent guide, we felt at ease with him from start to finish and we left the tour with a much better understanding and feel for the people, history and culture. Everything was on time, communication was great, car comfortable. Would highly reccomend you book this tour, you won't regret it and the context made the rest of our time in Tiblisi more enjoyable. Thanks very much.
I took my wife and kids to Georgia for a long weekend and we only had time for one guided tour. I'm glad I chose this one. We really got to see a lot of the attractions around Tbilisi. The visit to the Chronicles at the end of the day was amazing, as we had the sunset there. Zura is not just a guide and driver, he is a compassionate and thoughtful man with a great sense of humour. We had a lot of fun together and I hope to see him again one day. The Georgian driving style is a little different than what we are used to, but Zura navigated and drove in a manner that made us feel safe even though the other drivers don't really seem to follow any rules. Overall, it was a great day for both us parents and our teenagers.
Super day. We enjoyed our tour with the guide and driver Zura, he is recommended by us. The itinerary covered many interesting places.
Zura is a very good driver and guide he explained us everything perfectly and showed us beautiful places
We had the full day tour with Zura, and we were blown away by the knowledge he had about the places we visited!! Zura is a great guide and also a very safe and comfortable driver:) He is charming and has a great energy so we also a lot of fun in the car between the different spots. We really recommend booking this trip with him, and wish him all the best<3
The tour was amazing. Zura knows a lot about all the places visited and gave us a lot of valuable information about each of them. We had the opportunity to do the tour at our own pace, and he guided and guided us very kindly throughout the day. It is an experience that is very well worth it!!!
Zura is a great guide with a lot of knowledge, but also charisma. He made the trip a lot more fun than what I can imagine most guides do. He is also a very safe and smart driver, especially compared to the average Georgian driver, which have a quite different driving style than what we are used to from Europe. Zura made sure we always felt safe on the road, and I highly recommend his service
