Itinerary

Admission not included30 min

The monument, which sits atop a hill surrounded by trash heaps and unfinished homes, depicts a man, woman, and child who are ostensibly meant to be African yet look glaringly like chiseled Soviet caricatures. The statue would not be quite so alarming if it were not for its sheer size, topping out at over 160 feet of bronze nationalism or a little more than half the height of the Statue of Liberty. This makes it the tallest statue in Africa. But the visit inside the monument is extra charged

Admission not included15 min

The Mosque of Divinity, built in 1997, is a mosque located in Ouakam, Senegal. It is a structure with two minarets. The mosque provides a view of the Atlantic Ocean, as the mosque lies near the shore, at the Corniche-Ouest.

Pass by

Sandaga market was built in 1935. Its architecture reminds the Arabian Sudanese style of Timbuktu in Mali. Its decoration is a mixture of Arabian and African styles with arabesques and geometrical drawings.

Pass by

The Palace of the Republic, residence of the President of the Republic, is a historic manor located in the Plateau district of Dakar, capital city of Senegal. Built in 1902, the Palace used to be the official residence of the Governor General of French West Africa.

10 min

The Kermel market is a very beautiful building from 1860 - a beautiful round wrought iron and brick hall of Arabic inspiration - which was ravaged by fire in 1994, and rebuilt identically in 1997, classified as a historical monument. The large clock at the entrance to the market used to ring the closing bell at noon on the dot. At the Kermel market, one can find all the food products and is frequented by Westerners looking for the best products of the city since its creation

120 min

The island of Gorée lies off the coast of Senegal, opposite Dakar. From the 15th to the 19th century, it was the largest slave-trading centre on the African coast. Ruled in succession by the Portuguese, Dutch, English and French, its architecture is characterized by the contrast between the grim slave-quarters and the elegant houses of the slave traders. Today it continues to serve as a reminder of human exploitation and as a sanctuary for reconciliation.

Informative tour Goree Island

Interesting trip to Goree island coupled with a brief city tour. Our guide Malang was very helpful and informative. He did a great job with the logistics and setting us up with a local guide on Goree island. He has some insightful thoughts on what it is like / what is happening Senegal today.

Overpriced for what is...

Overpriced for what is it. Although the guide was interesting, this could very easily be planned independently

Tour to Gorée Island and panoramic view of Dakar

The history of Goree Island is really impressive, but it is very interesting. It's worth a visit. The visit I made to Dakar was a panoramic tour with a stop at the African Renaissance Monument, a giant statue!

Ruined dream trip.

I can't recommend this tour company. They booked this tour even though the date was a bank holiday and nothing would be opened- no museums, no monuments. The easiest thing would be to rebook for another day but the guides showed up and didn't tell me the situation of it being a bank holiday until we had left my hotel- too late to reschedule. The guide acknowledged he should had said something before we left but opted not to. This company also left me stranded for another tour without notice. They never explained what happened. I wasted time and money. This was a special dream trip that was ruined.

A tour not to miss!

Our guide Malang provided us with an excellent day. Regulations on our ship caused us a little delay, so we missed the first ferry to Goree Island. No worry, as Malang had us get our tickets stamped for the next ferry and showed us some Dakar sites instead of just waiting at the pier. Everywhere we went, people knew Malang. Highly recommend this tour!

A very full and informative day!

Going to Goree Island on the Ferry. Visiting the sites there. And watching how the Sand painting is done by the artist!

The delight of a trip

Hats off to the leaders of Senegal Global Tours. On my way back to Sweden, I must confess that my first visit to Africa was a real delight thanks to the professionalism and dedication of the trip organizers. I really appreciated how they managed the visit from beginging to end keeping all their promises in terms of quality of service, provision of appropriate information, responses to my queries and anticipation of my needs. I will see to it to spread the word around me because many trip organizers usually present to potential visitors attractive services but often fail to fuifil their promises. Goree Island and the Monument of African Renaissance offered me the opportunity to open pages of the continent's sad history and to hold out a hope for a rising Africa despite the challenges that the countries are facing. Thank you Senegal Global Tours making this trip memorable.
