Itinerary
Start your Colca Canyon excursion very early at 3:00 am. We will pick you up from your hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle to begin the journey along the Yura road toward Chivay, a charming town located at 3,600 meters above sea level.
Enjoy a local breakfast featuring fresh, typical products of the region. Try warm bread and coca tea, perfect for adjusting to the high altitude.
Arrive at the famous Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint where you will witness the majestic flight of the Andean condor soaring above one of the world’s deepest canyons, reaching depths of up to 3,400 meters. Learn about the canyon’s geology, rich biodiversity, and its cultural significance to local communities.
On the return journey, stop at the Antahuilque and Choquetico viewpoints to observe ancient pre-Inca agricultural terraces and their irrigation systems. Enjoy unique panoramic views of the Colca Valley and discover its fascinating history.
Hot Springs and Lunch in Chivay Relax in natural hot springs with water temperatures around 38°C (100°F), enjoying therapeutic benefits amid stunning Andean scenery. Afterwards, savor a delicious buffet lunch featuring typical regional dishes.
On the way back to Arequipa, stop at the Patapampa viewpoint at 4,910 meters above sea level to admire spectacular views of volcanoes such as Ampato, Sabancaya, and Hualca Hualca. Then visit the Tocra wetlands (bofedales) to spot diverse Andean bird species and native wildlife including llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat.
Continue through the Cañahuas plain, part of the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where you can observe elegant vicuñas. Andean camelids prized for their fine wool, freely roaming in their natural environment.
Conclude your tour with a scenic drive back to Arequipa, arriving around 5:00 pm.

Beautiful places and strong emotions watching the Condors soar. Points of concern: Vehicle unsuitable for people over 190 cm it was not possible to fit the legs in the space between the seats the only possible place: the last row, seat between the two rows, The excursion included pickup and drop-off at the hotel, the pickup was fine, the drop-off ended on a street near the center but more than a kilometer away from the hotel and when I pointed out that the drop-off at the hotel was included, the guide firmly responded "NO", so there was nothing left to do but to head to the hotel on foot with backpacks, not knowing the way, arriving at least 15 minutes later. in conclusion: the places definitely deserve 5 stars for beauty and emotions, the tour deserves 0 stars for the means of transport and behavior: so 2 stars are already a high rating.

Per quanto riguarda il punto di arrivo del tour, esso si conclude in una zona centrale vicino a Plaza de Armas ad Arequipa, da dove i passeggeri possono raggiungere facilmente hotel, ristoranti e le principali attrazioni del centro storico. Questo punto di arrivo è comunemente utilizzato a causa delle restrizioni di accesso e di traffico su alcune strade del centro città. Vey nice experience! Our Guide David was very nice and also he spoke Endlessly to us. Colca Canyon, great experience in Peru. But be just careful of altitude sickness after the Colca Canyon.

The worst tour I have ever been on. The tour guide couldn’t speak any English. The breakfast was a joke, 2 slices of cold hard bread, no coffee only hot water and 2 small instant coffee packets that 6 people had to fight for. Most of places we visited were tourist traps.

The Colca Canyon day trip delivers on its main promise — and those highlights are genuinely spectacular. Watching Andean condors soar above one of the world's deepest canyons at Cruz del Cóndor is a moment that stays with you. The views of the ancient pre-Inca agricultural terraces were equally impressive, and the panoramic lunch stop with a volcano backdrop was a lovely surprise — a clean, well-run restaurant that felt like a real highlight of the day. Our guide Erik was knowledgeable and kept the day moving well across a packed itinerary. The early 3am start is worth it — you arrive at the right time. A few honest notes for future travelers: the day does feel slightly overloaded with stops, and at times it edges toward a sales-tour atmosphere. The Aguas Termales hot springs were a disappointment — overcrowded and not particularly inviting, so we skipped going in. The breakfast in Chivay was very basic. Less might genuinely be more here — trimming a couple of stops in favor of more time at the canyon itself would make this a five-star experience. Overall, a worthwhile and memorable day — just go in with realistic expectations and focus on the condors and the canyon. Those alone make the early alarm worth setting.
