We wished to walk to Laguna Capri and so booked the self guided tour. Pick up around the hotels was very efficient; some people were collected by a second minibus that met up with us. We left El Calafate just before 8am arriving at El Chalten at 11am. We were not expecting an English speaking guide/escort but South Road had combined three groups; 6 self guided, 15? guided and perhaps 8 people having a taxi service to El Chalten. So we were on a big very comfortable coach with a very helpful young English speaking guide. Coach was an off-road 4 wheel drive vehicle with good suspension, not needed on the excellent road. We were dropped off near the trailhead and easily got up and down within 4 hours plus half hour lunch break. We left at 4.15pm picked up some people using the bus as a taxi back to El Calafate and we were at our hotel at about 7pm. Drive was interesting and not tedious. A great day.
it was raining all day, so the tour guide Marissa (who was friendly and informative - in Spanish, Portuguese and English) let me change from free-trekking with a lunch box to shorter group walking with a hot sit-down lunch. This was much appreciated. The walks we did (to Chorrillo del Salto waterfall and the Mirador los Condores viewpoint) were ok and the lunch was really good.
I never got picked up for this tour. The rating is for the quick way they handled my refund. I was really looking forward to this.
