It was a great time. There was no pressure to buy any Mezcal or Tequila. We took ATV's to get to the fruit garden, unfortunately we were a little early for peak season but we did pick some limes and guava. The guide was very knowlegable and fun. The lunch was great.
They have a few activities at the 55 acre Rancho Mr. Lionso, including ATV’s and horseback riding. We opted for something of a slower pace and A little more down to earth. A walking tour through the fruit tree garden. A bright and delightful young lady named Alejandra took us on an interesting stroll through the ranch , enjoying the flowers and tasting some of the fruits of their labor (literally) . A little detour to check out the beach and a chance encounter with three divers that resulted in oysters for all back at the open-air restaurant later . The lunch was very nice and a little unique with the mezcal flaming cheese. We also enjoyed the story of how the mescal is made and the tasting of many flavors. For people coming by Cruise Ship, after the tram drops you off, walk through the stores and waiting in the outdoor shop area will be a man with a big smile and a big sign that says Veraneando Adventures.
I really wanted to like this trip. We know to expect less in November, they only show us 4 fruits: 'Mexican' lime, almost ripe avocado, almost ripe papaya, Mango tree and avocado. Kind of disappointing. No samples of any fruit. No Nopales, Passion fruit (not even vines), Star fruit, Watermelon, Pumpkin, Sunflower, Orange, Bergamot, Custard apple as advertised. They did give us an ATV ride on the beach. This did made up for the lack of fruit. Lunch as wonderful. Mezcal tasting was nice too. Guides were very friendly. Beautiful Ranch. Oh, it's also a 45 minute car ride from the cruise port. Don't be late returning.
If you want to have a tour of a family farm that has been in the family for generations, with a lunch and tequila tasting to follow, then you want to do this tour. You could really feel the pride the owner has in his family and the farm. We didn’t get the opportunity to taste any of the produce we picked while touring, and I would suggest long pants/bug wipes as we were walking through the farm fields. If you have mobility issues I would not recommend this tour, there was many hills and sand&dirt paths. Pick up and drop off: we came in on a cruise ship, pick up was easy and instructions were clear, the location is about 30 min away from the port. On the way back our taxi driver did ask us a couple times if we wanted him to wait while we did shopping or take pictures. Food: the food was really good! Really enjoyed the tequila cheese. Bonus: they asked us on pickup if we wanted to also do ATVs or horseback riding for an extra charge and only I wanted to do horseback riding so the majority of my tour was by horseback while my husband was on foot and I also had a solo horseback riding time down the beach.
