Zhinvali (Jinvali) water reservoir, also known as a lake is located on the Georgian Military Highway. Soviets constructed the dam in the 1980s. As Tbilisi was growing rapidly, there was a need of a new water supply. Government decided that the Aragvi Gorge rich with glacier water was the perfect spot. The city of Zhinvali(Jinvali) had been at the crossroads of the great trading routes. Therefore throughout the history, it was a city of Georgian elite. It was rich with fortresses, towers and palaces. Though most of these had tumbled down to ruins throughout the centuries, territory promised a big archaeological treasure. Unfortunately, the protests didn’t bother the Soviet Government and they proceeded to flood the area burying centuries of history under 75 meters of water. In the winter times, you can still see a small gem of the old Zhinvali. As the water levels drop, a church once located at a hill overlooking the city, surfaces from underneath the water.
Ananuri Fortress is a 17th Century Architectural Ensemble which at the time was one of the strongest fortresses in Georgia. Fortress is located in a 70 km drive from Tbilisi, in the village with the same name – Ananuri. In 1739, Ananuri was attacked by forces from a rival duchy, commanded by Shanshe of Ksani and was set on fire. The Aragvi clan was massacred. However, four years later, the local peasants revolted against rule by the Shanshe, killing the usurpers and inviting King Teimuraz II to rule directly over them. However, in 1746, King Teimuraz was forced to suppress another peasant uprising, with the help of King Erekle II of Kakheti. The fortress remained in use until the beginning of the 19th century. In 2007, the complex has been on the tentative list for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage Site program.

The ancient church, dating from the 14th century, stands at an elevation of 2170 meters, overlooking the small town of Stephantsminda, also reffered to as Kazbegi, in the North of the country. Apart from its religious purpose, the medieval church used to serve as a hiding place. During invasions at different times in Georgia's history the national treasure was hidden there, since it was hardly reachable for enemies. The 18th century Georgian author Vakhushti Batonishvili wrote that in times of danger, precious relics from Mtskheta, including Saint Nino's Cross were brought here for safekeeping. During the Soviet era, all religious services were prohibited, but the church remained a popular tourist destination.

The highlight of my Georgia trip. Every stop offered a different perspective of the Caucasus Mountains. Gergeti Trinity Church against the backdrop of Mount Kazbek was unforgettable. Plenty of opportunities for photography, and the scenery throughout the drive was simply stunning. A long day, but absolutely worth it.
That was wonderful! My friends and I are absolutely delighted) thank you to our wonderful guide - Katie! How wonderful, interesting and very fun it was with her) Recommend with all my heart)
Today we were on a field trip to Mount Kazbek. Guide Katie was with us. She spoke very interestingly and clearly about the history and sights of the area from Tbilisi to Kazbek. She made the trip even more interesting and educational. Katie, thank you so much for the wonderful tour! ❤️
An incredible trip to some of the most beautiful places in Tbilisi! Thank you so much to our guide Kate❤️ she made our day not only rich in experiences, but so lively, moving and educational. We were very lucky to have our day like this.
It was a nice experience. The weather was kind to us. The nature is beautiful. You spend a lot of time in the van. But the distances are long between the few points you can see. The guide was nice.
The trip is as interesting and heartwarming as possible. It was beautiful, organized and fun.
I can’t describe how much I loved this tour. I had an amazing experience and was able to visit incredible places such as Ananuri, Aragvi, the Friendship Monument, Kazbegi, and Gergeti. The beauty of these locations speaks for itself, but the way everything was presented made the experience even more special. Our guide, Stepane, did an excellent job explaining the history and significance of each place in a clear and engaging way. He was professional, warm, respectful, and had a great sense of humor that kept the group interested and entertained throughout the tour. We also had the opportunity to enjoy wine tasting and honey tasting, which made the experience even more authentic and memorable. We stopped for a break to enjoy delicious Georgian food, and the Georgian wines we tasted were absolutely amazing. I was also very satisfied with the transportation and overall safety of the trip. Our driver, Ramaz, drove carefully and made us feel safe the entire time. The bus was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Overall, this tour was not just about seeing beautiful places, but also about the welcoming atmosphere, professionalism, and sense of safety that made it such a memorable experience.
It was really fun, i highly recommend it
An unforgettable experience. The guide was very enjoyable and translated everything from Armenian to Russian and English. The time was sometimes a little fair to see everything but necessary to be able to do the full tour. I would certainly repeat with them.
