Interesting itinerary with cave visits and a park. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. A captivating experience at sunset. Highly recommended!
- departed 30 minutes late without explanations - met the guide on site, fortunately competent! - for the return, we were dropped off in the middle of the avenues without any reception and far from the agency, which was already closed at 9:00 PM. Agency not recommended!

I booked these tours simply by calling, and I received all the information via WhatsApp… the tour of the stones with Beppe was truly exceptional; he explains everything excellently, a journey through history and culture that captivates you… the sunset over the Murgia Park with Mr. Antonio offers unique colors and atmosphere.
We were a group of about 12, and were driven to the nature reserve by van. There we were given a tour of a cave church / pilgrimage site, we watched Matera from the cliff at setting sun, then we visited a few caves. The guide Michele told all about the history, geology and plants that grow here, which was very interesting. It is not a real extended walk, but easy clothes and shoes are recommended; there is no paved road.
The guide Raffaele, with joy and professionalism, accompanied us on an unforgettable tour in the park.
The tour to Murgia Park was beautiful, allowing us to see some of the areas surrounding the Sassi portion of Matera. We were able to tour a cave church, learn about the refrigeration system of past centuries, and learn about some of the native plants of the area. The weather was quite nice. However, the low cloud cover on the evening of our tour did not allow for a magnificent sunset as we had hoped. To compensate for this disappointment was the ability to see the night lights of Matera’s Sassi area across the deep canyon between us. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful with answering our questions. This was a very pleasant and enjoyable tour!
Truly magical to go back in time visiting cave dwellings a d learning the history of this Paleolithic city
Great tour! Our guide, Michael(sp?) was incredibly knowledgeable and obviously passionate about the information he was sharing. We really enjoy the mixture of history, flora, and fauna included in the tour and the bus trips broke up the walking so even though one of us had somewhat limited mobility, they were able to enjoy the tour with only a little help during one short part of the trail. It was cloudy, so no sunset, but the town lit up at night was well worth seeing - beautiful!
Our guide Michele (Michael) was awesome! He was so knowledgeable about the native plants of Matera and Matera’s history. The tour was nicely broken up with the van taking you to the look out area for the beautiful sunset! The walking path is very clear and an easy walk with minimal stair climbing. Michele’s passion for Matera was felt.
Very disorganized tour, starting 45 mins after the scheduled time. Save your money and either explore by yourself or with a different tour. Unfortunately the guide we had, also had limited English despite booking and paying extra for the English tour. Google translate had to be used multiple times and he gave far less detail in his descriptions than the Italian guide who was also with us, even after being prompted by the guide for the Italian version who also had a torch and pointer to show key elements, neither of which our guide had brought along. It was noticeable how poor the English version was compared to other tours. Maybe ok with good weather and a nice sunset to offset the poor narration but otherwise a very disappointing experience.
We are very sorry to read about your experience and that the tour did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen last-minute change, we had to replace our regular trusted guide, and we understand that this negatively affected both the timing and the quality of the English explanation. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay and for the inconvenience caused during the tour. We always aim to provide a high standard of service, and we regret that in this case we fell short. Your feedback is very important to us and will help us improve our organization and the quality of our English tours in the future.
