Maik was a hospitable tour guide from start to finish. Communication was easy and explained well. Our pickup point was from the Sheraton hotel directly across from the airport. It doesn’t have a drive-up ramp so he offered helpful directions to pick us up days prior to our scheduled tour date. if you’re a history buff, he has a lot to share, very knowledgeable not just about the stops on the tour, but other aspects as well. Unfortunately the Loreley wasn’t available due to a festival, our tour was June 12-14 to keep festival dates in mind. The chairlift was down. This is out of our tour guides hands, but still disappointing if you’re looking forward to it. There’s a decent amount of walking, if you get to see Rheistein be prepared for an inclined trek. You’ll take the ferry across the Rhein from the town portion to the side where Rheistein is. Due to some of the stops being unavailable we did get to go on our mini-cruise a little longer at the generosity of Maik paying for our tickets. Maik let us take the cruise on our own, but waited to make sure we could board, before taking his car back across the Rhein on the ferry, and met us punctually on the other side. All in all it was an amazing tour that was as leisurely as it was physical.
THE TOUR AS DESCRIBED ON VIATOR DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY EXHAUSTING WALKING OR STEEP CLIMBS. PLEASE READ! Thank you for the generally nice review. However you please allow to put some things in perspective because what you write does in part extremly damage my business. I know this was not your intention and I am sure, I don´t deserve that. 1. THE TOUR AS DESCRIBED ON VIATOR DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY EXHAUSTING WALKING OR STEEP CLIMBS. This specific tour did exceptionally include Rheinstein castle, which usually is not a part of this tour, and yes there is a short yet steep uphill hike up there. 2. We encountred 2 difficulies on this tour. A chairlift we usually use for going downhill broke the day before (so no way to know in advance) and was not working. And on the Loreley rock there was an unannounced concert taking place. There is an open are concert arena on top of the Loreley and during summer season there are multiple concerts taking place there, most of them on Fridays or Saturdays. So was a Michael Patrick Kelly concert on Saturday June 13th. We carefully precheck the concert announcements at the beginning of the season and inform guests who book on such a day accordingly right after the reservation. In this case the Kelly concert was sold out quickly and the managment decided to add a second one on the day after, Sunday June 14th, the day of our tour. This was long after the annual concert calender was published and it was sheer coincidnece I knew about it. I did read about it in the morning of the tour in the traffic update for the day. I understand people are frustrated when they want to see something and it turns out to be closed but I have to point out clearly that -despite very careful planing- those 2 issues were unavoidable and beyond my control. 3. I changed the tour layout and added Rheinstein castle and a longer cruise on the river Rhine instead, adding 60.- dollars to my cost. So Rheinstein is normally not a stop on this tour. Because of the change in tour layout I couln´t accompany guests on the boat (what I usually do) because I had to return the car. However there is english language announcements and descriptions of the sights on the ship.
Narration was excellent. Took us to many local sites and was very knowledgeable. Us from U.S. and he being from Canada then Germany, understanding him was ez. And he understood our questions about the German language. He ordered food & drinks for us that really helped with our language “limitation”. Very scenic tour. We did walk for an hour with a gradual incline thru the forest. Day was topped off with The ferry boat ride on the Rhine. Great day!
The tour was to the RIVER RHINE VALLEY, not to Frankfurt and the boat was not a ferry but a regular scheduled passenger boat. Besides that thanks for the nice review!
