Itinerary
Your private tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Bucharest and, during the drive to your first stop, will provide an overview of the day’s experience. After a drive of just under two hours, you’ll arrive in Dealu Mare, Romania’s premier wine region—a true escape for wine lovers. Much like Bordeaux or Tuscany, Dealu Mare sits along the 45th parallel, boasting an ideal climate for producing rich, velvety wines, particularly reds. On this exclusive wine-tasting journey, you’ll visit two boutique wineries, tour their facilities, and sample 12 exquisite wines, including indigenous Romanian varieties like Fetească Neagră, expertly paired with local cheese and charcuterie. As you travel between estates along the historic Old Wine Road, take in the beauty of restored manors and rolling vineyard-covered hills.
The first stop on your boutique winery tour is Lacerta Winery, renowned for its elegant modern design, state-of-the-art facilities, and top-tier wines. Local experts will lead you through a private tour of the vineyard and wine cellars, where you'll learn about Lacerta's unique winemaking philosophy, from vine to bottle. Despite its modern approach, Lacerta is deeply rooted in tradition, with winemaking techniques that incorporate gravitational principles, minimizing the use of pumps to preserve the wine’s integrity. After the tour, indulge in a tasting of 6 exquisite wines, including Romania’s signature Fetească Neagră, paired with a selection of premium cheeses and charcuterie. This will offer a full sensory experience that highlights the region’s rich flavors, all set against the backdrop of stunning vineyard-covered hills that stretch endlessly around the estate.
Your tour continues with a visit to 1000 Chipuri Winery, a family-owned boutique blending traditional techniques with innovative wine production. Explore the estate, where your guide will share the winery’s philosophy and its dedication to fine wines. Before the second wine-tasting, you can opt for a traditional Romanian lunch, savoring authentic local flavors. The tasting includes six carefully selected wines, paired with cheese, cured meats and dried fruits. You’ll also sample a couple of wines directly from stainless steel tanks, gaining insight into the aging process. Fetească Neagră, a standout Romanian red, is a must-try, alongside Cabernet Franc and Tămâioasă Românească, often compared to dry Muscat. After an unforgettable day of wine tasting and cultural immersion, relax as you return to Bucharest. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel, leaving you with lasting memories of a premium experience in one of Romania’s finest wine regions. In vino veritas!

We had an absolutely incredible time on our wine tour to Dealu Mare! From the moment he picked us up, our guide, Mihai, was the epitome of professionalism. His deep knowledge of the region and the winemaking process was impressive, and his friendly, easy-going nature made the entire day feel like we were traveling with an old friend. The wineries selected—Lacerta and 1000 Chipuri—were top-tier. These weren't just simple tastings; they offered a thorough look into the history and production process of Romanian wine. The quality of the wines was exceptional, and we truly appreciated the personalized attention we received at each stop. Beyond the wine, the overall beauty of the Dealu Mare region is stunning—rolling vineyards as far as the eye can see. We visited in April, but it is undoubtedly even more beautiful in the Summer months, when vineyards begin blossoming and the grapes start gradually growing. We also opted for the lunch at the second winery, which was a fantastic addition. It was a high-quality, delicious meal at a very fair price, right in the heart of the winery. Whether you are a seasoned wine aficionado or someone who just enjoys a good glass of wine and great scenery, I would definitely recommend this tour. Thank you, Mihai, for a perfect day!
Thank you so much for this incredible review, Mark! I’m truly glad you enjoyed the entire experience — from the wineries and wines to the landscapes of Dealu Mare. It means a lot to hear that the day felt both informative and relaxed. I have to say, the feeling was mutual — it genuinely felt like spending the day with an old friend, and that kind of connection is what makes these tours so special for me. Thank you again for your trust and recommendation — it really means a great deal. I’m looking forward to staying in touch, and hopefully sharing a coffee next time you’re back in Romania! Warm regards, Mihai Tour Manager & Guide | Unveil Romania
The guide was very knowledgeable about history. I enjoyed speaking with him. The two wineries were hospital. The first one gave the full tour of how they made & bottled. We compared wine that were cask aged vs only bottled. Was able to taste the difference. It was rainy day, but this was a great way to spend it.
Thank you so much for the kind review! I’m really glad you enjoyed the wine tasting experience, even on a rainy day — sometimes the best memories are made when we embrace the weather! It was a pleasure sharing stories and wines with you, and I’m happy you had the chance to taste the difference between oak-aged wines and those matured only in stainless steel. Wishing you both all the best, and if you ever return to Romania, I’d be delighted to welcome you back for another adventure! Warm regards, Mihai Tour Manager & Guide, Unveil Romania
Prior to visiting Romania for the first time, my wife and I had no idea that Romania had such a rich and long tradition of wine making. To that end, Mihai, our tour guide, did an outstanding job of introducing us to that tradition by taking us to visit (and sample the wines from) several active Dealu Mare wineries, as well as a fascinating museum located within the grounds of a former estate in the Dealu Mare region. Mihai was punctual, extremely friendly, knowledgeable in many topics wine related and not, and fully conversant in English--all of which made for a great conversation as we drove with him through the Romanian countryside, effortlessly solving all of the world's problems (if only). In sum, we had a great tour of the Dealu Mare wine region and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a personalized introduction to the interesting wines of Romania in the company of a wonderful guide--call us "pleasantly surprised" indeed.
This trip was amazing and exceeded our expectations. The wineries we visited were quirky and and full of interesting characters who made us feel very welcome; the wines we sampled were the best we've ever tasted and we even got to sample some at different stages in the fermentation process. We were also given copious amounts of food and even whole bottles of wine surrounded by the most beautiful countryside. So very good value for money considering all we got for it. What's more our host Mihai was incredibly friendly and tailored the experience to make sure we had the best time. He's really knowledgeable when it comes to history. So no need to do an additional walking tour- Mihai will give you that for free while driving around Bucharest and Delu Mare! We'd definitely do this tour again if we came back to Romania.
