Very interesting tour and the food was delicious and plentiful! Loved the wine tasting too. We were the only 2 people on the tour so had a very personal service from our lovely guide Talos. Was a great opportunity to see the capital Argistoli too!
Although Tasos was a very pleasant friendly guide, this evening tour did not live up to our expectations. We expected to be taken to establishments where the local produce/ recipes would be described and explained. We did not expect to be given food boxes to be eaten on benches around the town and one course served at a squashed pavement table. We did learn quite a bit about Argostoli, less so about the food. Overall it was such bad value - we estimated that this one evening cost us the equivalent of 3 evening restaurant meals with wine.
It was a little disappointing to have this experience cancelled the day before it was due, without explanation. I contacted them through Tripadvisor to confirm it was cancelled. I received quite an abrupt explanation that it had been cancelled due to lack of numbers, I’m not sure that’s the way forward. No apology just an offer to rearrange 5 days after we had returned home.
We decided to do this tour on our last night in Kefalonia in June. Booked through AirBnB. After conquering the maze of streets of Argostoli, we met with our tour guides Anastasios and his wife Tina for the Argostoli City Food & History Tour. We started out visiting a supermarket where we tried cheeses on a charcuterie board. We learned that you will enjoy soft cheeses even more if you drizzle honey on it! We cruised on foot through the city and tried meat pies, wine, nuts, cod pie, gelato, and confections. We learned all about historic city buildings and the stories behind them. Anastasios and Tina were energetic about their city and for the opportunity for us to try a variety of Greek (and other nationality’s) specialty food. The tour was paced just right, no one was rushed, and our group was a lot of fun. I especially liked chilling on the waterfront with my dinner. We recommend this tour for anyone ready to get to know the background and options in the area. Bring an empty belly!
Great guides, interesting information and good local food. A wide range of different products all good quality. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable gave us a good insight into local food. Would recommend this tour.
The food tour in Argostoli was truly exceptional. We savored delicious cheeses sourced from a family farm, followed by deep-fried battered cod accompanied by a delightful sauce made from mashed potatoes, garlic, and olive oil. Next, we enjoyed Kefalonian meat pies filled with rice, all wrapped in a flavorful pastry, along with Riganada—a dish featuring stale bread topped with chopped fresh tomatoes, olive oil, a splash of vinegar, and generous amounts of Greek wild dried oregano. Additionally, we participated in a wine tasting featuring four exquisite local wines, which perfectly complemented our culinary journey. To top it all off, we indulged in wonderfully refreshing gelato. Our tour guide, Tina, was delightful and shared a wealth of knowledge about the food, as well as cultural and historical insights about Argostoli. Joining her was another guide, Anastasios, who added a fun dynamic to the experience and also shared interesting information. I highly recommend this tour!
Everything was fantastic. Tamos was extremely interesting and knowledgeable. The foods were delicious especially the meat pie. I am diabetic so just tried lots of bits and was able to take the rest for tomorrow. A fantastic tour to remember. Do not eat all day. Lots of delicious food.
We really enjoyed this food tour around Argostoli, led by Tassos. We tried local dishes including different Kefalonian cheeses & honey, salt cod and garlic sauce, traditional Kefalonian meat pie, 4 types of local wine, local sweets and ice cream. Tassos knows all about the local food and history, it was a relaxed and very enjoyable evening he even brought along tomatoes and oregano from his own grandmother’s garden.
Excellent Food Tour with Tina & Thassos. The young couple are so interesting and friendly, very good English speakers and very well educated on the history of the area. They are an inspiration to the locals, sharing some of the food secrets with us tourists and ensuring that you visit the proper family food producers. I was never a rose fan until i went on this tour and tasted the local rose. Really lovely food. We really enjoyed the tour, they ran it even though it was just the hubby and I, now that's dedication. I would advise anyone visiting the island to do this tour, you will not be disappointed.
Never been on a food tour before. But our excellent guide introduced us to amazing food - cheese, kefalonia meat pie, fried fish and ice cream - and wine as we walked through Argostoli and found out more about the city. The tour was great value - no need for dinner before or afterwards - and provided a brilliant way to get to know Argostoli on foot in the relative cool evening. Highly recommended for early in your holiday, so you know where to go afterwards.
