Itinerary
Your tour will begin just in front of the entrance to the Duomo ticket office at Piazza di San Giovanni, where your guide will lead you passed the public lines and directly into the cathedral, thanks to our special no wait access. Upon entering the church, your guide will begin the story of this incredible feat of engineering that required a whole new process for its construction. Including how, after nearly 200 years of construction, architect Filippo Brunelleschi's innovative approach finally enabled its completion. In addition to learning the history of this magnificent structure, you will also view the beautiful details of its interior including elaborate marble floors, stained-glass windows, and beautiful frescos. Your tour will be capped off by the viewing of Vasari’s famous Last Judgement, which lines the incredible 375 ft high dome. After your thirty-minute guided tour you will have the option to remain and explore the Duomo at your leisure or continue out to the beautiful Piazza del Duomo.
The Brunelleschi Dome, part of the Florence Cathedral, is a crowning architectural achievement by Filippo Brunelleschi. Completed in the 15th century, it stands as an engineering marvel, showcasing a double-shell structure with an inner and outer dome. The red-tiled exterior harmonizes with the city's skyline. Climbing to the top will reward you with unparalleled panoramic views of Florence, making it a testament to Brunelleschi's innovative genius and a symbol of Renaissance ingenuity.
This tour also includes tickets to the nearby Museo della Misericordia. You can visit this jewel of a museum on your own to see its selection of Renaissance paintings and learn about the history of the ambulance corps that was founded to deal with the Black Death.

TERRIBLE. We arrived 20 minutes early as requested but we were told that we had to wear clothing that covered our knees, which was not mentioned anywhere on the tour description. Mind you, it was nearly 100 degree weather, they asked us buy "anything" to cover the knees but tryijg to find anything in the heat during the summer rush with a time limit is very inconvenient. What I didnt understand, more than half the people waiting in line to get inside had shorts, which is understandable considering how hot it was. My wife has a heart condition, so we couldnt move fast enough to return to our accommodation to change our clothing. Viator said we cant rebook and isnt refunding and the tour manager is refusing to refund despite not mentioning the need to cover knees. Definitely disappointed in Viator, considering we use that company regularly for our sight seeing needs. Im sure the tour conpany are all nice people, but refusing to refund is no different than someone robbing me at gun point, the only difference is the lack or threat of fear being used as a weapon. Anyhow, if you decide to take this tour, make sure you cover your knees.
Dear Ryan_A, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear about the difficult situation you and your wife experienced, especially given the extreme summer heat. We completely understand how frustrating it is to miss out on a tour you were looking forward to. However, we do want to gently clarify that the dress code requirements for religious sites in Italy are outlined on the booking voucher. Because these rules are strictly enforced by the venues themselves and are beyond our control, we unfortunately cannot be held responsible or issue a refund when entry is denied by venue staff. We deeply appreciate your past loyalty as a regular traveler, and we are grateful that you shared this reminder for future guests to ensure their knees and shoulders are covered. We wish you and your wife better experiences on your future travels.
The tour was short but very informative the guide knew the history of the Duomo very well. I enjoyed it. However directions to meeting point needs some fine tuning.
The Duomo area is a crowded mess- I communicated with the guide to find the group - this was a real plus!. But the tech equipment was not working properly As we entered the area (easily and on time) the equipment faltered- was very spotty- we couldn't hear complete sentences!,. No idea what information we missed (this was true for the whole group) I think there was too much information about the art in the cathedral but I can't be sure - We left after we saw the dome itself. BY THE WAY, the outside of the building is beautiful and probably has an interesting history too.
Dear Roberta_M, Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the priority entry, but we are sorry that the audio equipment did not function properly during your visit. We understand how frustrating this must have been, especially if it affected your ability to follow the guide's commentary. Your comments will be shared with our team as we continue working to improve the experience for all of our guests.
This was a great tour! Lots of information. About the history of the duomo…we hit to climb the stairs up to the top! Also the ticket was good for 3 days to go to the baptistery, the bell tower and the museum! No time constraints!
A helpful orientation tour. Without the dome option, you are basically paying to skip the massive line outside — worthwhile in summer, since the Duomo di Firenze itself is free to enter. The guide does a great job explaining the interior, particularly the Last Judgment fresco painted inside Brunelleschi’s Dome. Note that this non-dome tour does not include the crypt, baptistery, etc. We recommend booking directly through the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, as you get more for your money.
The church was beautiful, and we enjoyed the tour very much. If you choose to climb the dome, then you must be prepared for a very steep climb.!
amazing. got to skip the line and get a private tour of the inside of the church. then uou climb to the first level of the dome to see the painted ceilings. then continue on to the top of the dome. It’s quite a feat but absolutely worth it.
When it’s hot, skip the line is worth it! The guide gave a lot of information we wouldn’t otherwise have. Definitely worth it although the heavy accent was a little hard to follow
Informative tour. We got straight in and skipped the longer line outside. We were able to see everything in the cathedral before doing the dome climb. The dome climb was very narrow and long with waiting stops along the way but the view was worth it! Great panoramic view of the city!
This was a very informative tour and didn’t take too long. Worth it! The host shared so many stories and historical facts about the Duomo! We thoroughly enjoyed! Mom and her ultra hip college daughter!
