Itinerary
Most of Hungarian cuisine has deep roots in Jewish history, telling the resilient story of their people. To better understand the connection between Jewish culture and the food in Budapest, our tour will begin at a synagogue with a brief introduction from an expert guide.
We’ll continue learning about Jewish influence on Hungarian cuisine by strolling through District 7, a former Jewish neighbourhood and home to the biggest synagogue in Europe. Nowadays, it’s known for its vibrant nightlife where you’ll find iconic “ruin bars” and restaurants. They're a trend on social media, but they are still deeply connected to the district’s Jewish roots. You’ll explore the streets with your local guide, who will tell you about the history and how it relates to Hungarian cuisine before experiencing authentic street food. Leave your utensils at home; all you need is an open mind! You’ll be eating on the street like a local before heading to some sit-down spots.
Now it’s time to explore the other side of Budapest, one with a bit more glamour and style. You’ll stroll the city’s most expensive streets, where you’ll head to atmospheric restaurants to try traditional Hungarian dishes. We’ll finish the tour with a sweet treat before you continue the night with your newfound friends!

Our Budapest Food Tour was one of the highlights of our trip! From the moment we met our guide, Estee, we knew we were in for something special. She was warm, knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about sharing the history, culture, and cuisine of Budapest. We began in the historic Jewish Quarter, where Estee brought the area’s fascinating history to life before introducing us to authentic Hungarian specialties. Every stop was thoughtfully chosen, and each dish had its own story. We sampled a wonderful variety of traditional Hungarian foods, from savory street food and hearty local favorites to a delicious dessert and even a taste of Hungarian pálinka. If you’re visiting Budapest, this tour is a must! Ask for Estee if you can? she made the experience unforgettable. Highly recommend! 🇭🇺🍽️
The food stops were very good and some included beer or wine. the portions were sufficient. It was a nice size group and our guide, Agnes, did a great job. It was difficult to hear her sometimes since the streets can be noisy.
Awesome experience. Highly recommend. Come hungry as the portions are very nice size. Walking from place to place helps as well, so you free up some room
