Explore The Kampong Pluk Floating Village

Description
Kompong Phluk is a floating village located in the middle of Cambodia's largest lake, Tonle Sap. The term “floating” is a bit misleading: the houses are actually built on very tall stilts around 8 meters high. During the rainy season, the lake rises and covers the stilts, giving the illusion that the homes are floating in the water. We learned that these types of villages are built in the middle of the lake to make it easier for fishermen and rice farmers to gather during harvest season. This tour will take you into an enriching cultural immersion of Tonle Sap Lake called Kampong Phluk Village. Learn more about the ecological and economic significance of Tonle Sap Lake to the Cambodians. Catch a glimpse of the uncommon village life and on return will visit The Artisan School and drop at the Old Market free for shopping before taking you back to your hotel.

Itinerary
In the morning visit The Great Tonle Sap Lake (8:00AM – 12:00PM) The great Tonle Sap Lake is the richest fresh water fishing ground in the world, a national treasure producing an ever-changing landscape. The communities that live around the margins of the lake cope with huge seasonal variations in water levels by building their homes on floating bamboo rafts or 30ft stilts. It is well worth the extra effort to get away from the touristy village of Kampong Pluk to the more genuine stilted villages – or Chong Kneas (dependent on water levels) – for an understanding of contemporary lake life. Take the opportunity to pause at the stilted houses to see learn how a subsistence fishing family lives, before continuing by boat along the margins of the lake. While you explore the life on the water we will have prepared a picnic lunch for you to enjoy on-board while absorbing the atmosphere of this unique locality.

We enjoyed walking through the streets of the floating village and meeting the local children. We enjoyed the boat ride through the village. Unfortunately Guide did not fulfil the booking at correct time and it had to be re-arranged for 6 hours later despite several booking confirmations
We really enjoyed this activity. It gave us a glimpse of Cambodian life we would not otherwise have seen, specifically the floating village and relax on the boat was relaxing. The boat does not really cruise but floats along. We enjoyed sitting in the hammocks with a drink in hand, making for a very pleasant experience. I would recommend this activity highly - very relaxing.
I have joined this tour to visit floating village and see the village in 10meters still houses. We stop by a nearby floating forest filled with mangroves, which is also a source of living locals. The guide is very knowledge, he so us around the village pagoda and take a wooden boat with villagers. Highly recommend
