Firostefani is located north of Fira. It used to be a separate settlement but today it is considered part of the capital. Its name can be translated as " The Crown of Fira" because of its position on the highest part of Fira. Firostefani provides breathtaking views over the capital, the sea and the volcano. In this traditional village there are a few cozy restaurants, cafes, some shops and a mini market. It also offers some of the most impressive hotels of Santorini and some traditional rooms where you can combine serenity and relaxation with a vivid nightlife.

Oia,which is mentioned in various travel reports,is a scenic village on the north west edge of the Santorini island. It extends for almost 2km (1.2 miles) along the northern edge of the Caldera that forms the island of Santorini,at a height of between 70 and 100m (230 and 330 feet) above sea level. It is built on the steep slope of the Caldera and the houses and restaurants are built into niches carved into the Caldera on the seawood side. There are 300 steps down to the port from Oia. There are narrow passageways and a central square. The surroundings of the town have a complex of white washed , blue domed churches and charming traditional Cycladic houses. It is set in a location which provides excellent views of the sunset over the Caldera

40 min

Megalochori, a peaceful traditional village of Santorini with stone cobbled streets. It is located 9 km southwest of Fira. The permanent residents of the village are about 300. It is definitely worth spending an evening here in order to admire distinct buildings such as neoclassical houses, stately homes and old cave houses with solid wooden doors and high fences, which were used as a protection from the pirates. Another landmark of Megalochori is the elaborate steeples of the impressive churches, two of which stand at the center of the village. It is very famous for its vineyards and wineries. There are also two remote beaches on the Caldera side, both named after churches in the area,Plaka and Thermi beach. They are only accessible on foot or by boat. If you are interested in history this is the place to be. The Ancient City of Akrotiri one of the most important prehistoric settlements of the Aegean, the first civilization of the island was 4500 BC. The main volcanic eruption was 3650 years ago and everything was covered by the volcanic rocks and ashes. The town had 200 acres and only 5% excavated at this time. In the archaeological site of Akrotiri, you can walk through the amazing, well-preserved prehistoric city, which hosts the frescoes, the impressive mural paintings.

60 min

The Black Sand Beach is located on the southern coast of the island. There are two successive beaches, Perissa Beach and Perivolos Beach, which form one lengthy beach, the Black Beach. The surface of this beach is made of black volcanic sand and pebbles. Their grey or black color have the name to the whole beach, which is therefore called the " Black Beach". It is known for the thumbing beach bars. The inviting and fun atmosphere in combination with the plentiful bars and restaurants make it a very lively place. There are also plenty of facilities and water sports like windsurfing, canoeing and a diving center. we will stay at the black beach for an hour for swimming and for your lunch at a seaside restaurant on the beach.

25 min

Less than five kilometers (3.1 miles) away from the village Pyrgos it is situated the mountain of Profitis Ilias, the highest point of the island. It stands 567 meters above the sea level. At its top there is the Monastery of Profitis Ilias (or Prophet Elias) and it counts among the island's oldest and most important Orthodox landmarks. It was founded in 1711 by Gabriel and Ioakeim (2 monks) and it was built in the style of a fortress. It ran a school from 1806 to 1845 where Greek language and literature were among the main subjects taught. Today, the Monastery even has its own museum with a collection of rare ecclesiastical books, Byzantine icons and sculptures. This is a tranquil and quiet place where many visitors wish to stay longer. You can visit the chapel and its impressive gardens. Flowers and trees have been planted around the Monastery and over 700 olive trees complete the picture from where you can enjoy breathing panoramic views.

20 min

The most impressive work of art created by the volcano is obviously the Red Beach. It is the most popular among the beaches of the island. It is located in the southeastern part of the island, in the area of Akrotiri, approximately 8 km from Fira. The teacher's sand is composed of black and red pulverized volcanic rock. The nature itself continues to transform this artwork, as the salt, the sun, the rain water and the wind still mold the impressive cliffs and constantly give them new shapes. To reach the beach you have to walk a couple of minutes on a downhill path or you can access it by boat from Akrotiri port, Kamari or Perissa. The island's authorities have issued a banning Directive for attending the beach years ago, due to the frequent landslides and whoever decides to visit the beach does so of his own responsibility. Don't miss this incomparable landscape!!

30 min

In the traditional village of Akrotiri lies the Lighthouse of Santorini, built in 1892 by a French company and among Greece's oldest. It ceased operation during WWII but was restored by the Greek Navy in 1945. The square tower rises 10 meters above the keeper's house. Before electricity in 1988, it ran on petrol. Today, it emits a white light every 20 seconds, visible up to 24 nautical miles. While access is restricted to Greek Navy personnel, visitors can enjoy the surrounding trails, breathtaking sea views, and a romantic sunset. The serene vibe contrasts beautifully with nature’s raw power.

The Archaeological Site of Akrotiri, located 15 km south of Fira, is built on a hillside and has 489 permanent residents (2011 census). Known as the "Greek Pompeii," Akrotiri flourished during the Middle Cycladic Period (20th–17th centuries BC) as a major urban center and port of the Aegean. Excavations began in 1967 under Spyridon Marinatos to explore his theory that the Thera eruption caused the collapse of the Minoan Civilization. Since his passing in 1974, Professor Christos Doumas has continued the work with significant findings. Visiting Akrotiri offers a unique blend of history, education, and tourism, with the Red Beach nearby.

35 min

One of the most beautiful castelli of Santorini is Emporio, also known as Nimborios. This village is located 12 km from Fira. According to the 2011 census, the community of Emporio has 3.085 permanent inhabitants. The best preserved castle of Santorini is located here, with houses built one next to the other, in such a way that their walls simultaneously create the wall of the castle. The interior of this fortified settlement is full of curves. Inside the castle is the church of Palia Panagia or Panagia Mesani with the impressive steeple, the old woodcarving temple and the pebbled floor. Among other attractions, Emporio boasts the old Goulas Castle and some churches, such as Saint Nicholas Marmaritis.

35 min

Pyrgos Kallistis or simply Pyrgos is a village with a population of 912 according to the 2011 census and it is situated approximately 7 km away from the island's capital Fira. It is located at the island's highest point. On top of this hill remain the ruins of a Venetian Castle (Kasteli) that was once the island's administrative center. At an altitude of 360 meters, its castle is the highest on the island and from its peak we can admire the magnificent views of Santorini in almost all directions. Here, the pace of life is more relaxed; you can stroll in the alleys away from the intense touristic buzz of the Caldera villages. Pyrgos has a discreet charm and it is typical example of medieval architecture with narrow streets, fortified walls, hidden passages and traditional churches.

On the beautiful island of Santorinι after the volcanic eruption, the whole island was covered by a volcanic layer of volcanic ash and rocks. This is the reason why the vines thrive on the island and they have a great tradition in their cultivation. There are 19 different wineries on the island and we will visit one of them. You will taste 4 different varieties per person and you can also hear the history and learn about the local wines. This makes for in-depth knowledge and a more sociable experience. We choose the wineries with care and we usually prefer one of the 3 below. Gavalas winery, Argyros estate, or Gaia winery. If the traveler prefers to visit another winery, he can discuss it with our tour guide.

Santorini Experience

Our tour of Santorini with Dimitris was truly one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we met him, he treated us like family rather than tourists. He was kind, patient, thoughtful, and incredibly attentive to every detail, making sure our day was tailored exactly to what we wanted to see and experience. Nothing ever felt rushed, and he went above and beyond to accommodate our needs throughout the day. What made Dimitris so special wasn’t just his knowledge of Santorini, though he certainly shared fascinating insights and stories. It was his wisdom, warmth, and genuine joy for life. The conversation flowed effortlessly, covering everything from the island’s history to life, family, faith, and culture. He has the rare gift of making you feel completely comfortable, as if you’ve known him for years. And somehow, he seemed to know every hidden corner of the island. While other tourists were standing in line for at least 45 minutes waiting for the perfect photo, Dimitris effortlessly guided us to incredible locations where we captured stunning photos without the crowds. Not only did he know where to go, but he was also an amazing photographer. Our favorite family photos from the entire trip were taken by him. His laugh was absolutely contagious. You couldn’t help but smile when he laughed. The joy he carries is genuine, and it made the entire day feel lighter, richer, and more memorable. Some people leave an impression because of what they do. Dimitris leaves an impression because of who he is. He is one of those rare individuals you only encounter once in a great while—an old soul with a joyful spirit and a wealth of wisdom to share. In a place as beautiful as Santorini, it’s remarkable that one of our favorite memories was the person who showed it to us. Thank you, Dimitris, for a day our family will never forget. We arrived as guests and left feeling like family.

Tour with Petros

We took a tour with Petros to see sites away from the Caldera. He arranged for a wonderful trip, accommodating both the adults and a young child. He was knowledgeable about not only Santorini but other islands of the Cyclades in Greek culture in general. He very much entertained our child, showing her the various trees and rocks which she managed to collect souvenirs. He also took us to a nice little winery a wine tasting that was very peaceful and had some great wines. We would highly recommend Petros for a tour.

Private Santorini Tour

We had an amazing five-hour private tour in Santorini with Petros, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. From the very beginning, Petros made us feel comfortable and welcome with his friendly personality and deep knowledge of the island. One of the highlights was our visit to the Gavalas Winery Museum, where we enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting and learned a lot about Santorini’s unique wine tradition. After that, Petros took us to a beautiful seaside taverna at the famous Black Beach. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed, and we even had time to swim in the crystal-clear sea, which made the experience even more special. Everything was perfectly organized, unhurried, and tailored to our interests. We highly recommend Petros to anyone looking for an authentic and unforgettable Santorini experience!
