Really enjoyed the tour, our guide Roberto was really informative and friendly. The vineyards were interesting and the wine was great, the food that accompanied the drinks was of a high standard.
We and two other couples had a fantastic experience touring some amazing Sicilian villages and two wineries with our guide Roberto . We learnt a lot had fun , laughed , drunk some wine and even sung some Queen in the mini bus on the way home . Roberto is very engaging calm and explains so much we would highly recommend this tour as the number 1 to go on .
Ricardo was amazing. We got picked up around the corner from our hotel. He took us to see a castle, a church, made sure we stopped so we could get great pics of Mt Etna and gave us lots of history. We then went to two wineries for tasting and backgrounds of the wineries themselves and had lunch at one of them. Highly recommend this trip.
We booked this tour directly with the tour operator Etna People. The company was very responsive to my questions and easy to book with. The wine tour is a great way to visit some Etna wineries. Our leader was Tony and he was very informative about the area and also entertaining. He has lots of knowledge of the area. The tour starts in a small medieval town which provides great views of the area. You then visit two wineries. The first one provided a tour of the vineyard followed by a wine tasting. At the second winery we had a wonderful four course lunch with wine pairings. It was delicious meal. The tour group was small which was also nice. Highly recommend.
A fantastic tour from Taormina. Our guide and driver Tony, was friendly, knowledgeable, erudite, and spoke English very well. Our group consisted of My wife and I, and a couple from Canada who were great company on our trip. In lovely sunny weather, Tony drove us first to the small village of Castiglione di Sicilia, very charming, and with a fantastic view of Etna., then into Etna National Park, to our first vineyard and wine tasting. Here we had a selection of three wines and bread and olive oil, all very good, and a tour of the vineyard. We were not rushed at all. Then on to our second vineyard where we had a three course lunch, plus bread and olive oil, with a wine to accompany each course. Again all the wines were very good, and the food was excellent. You could buy the wines at both vineyards. We then returned to Taormina. Throughout Tony spoke about Sicily, Etna, the land and the local produce, including, of course, wine and winemaking. His knowledge and passion for these shone through. He was excellent. It was a really wonderful, relaxed and enjoyable trip. We would absolutely recommend it.
We wanted to thank you for the best trip today. We are traveling time to time but this experience was very unique and exceeded expectations :) Bravo to Roberto, best guide in Taormina so far! 20 points of 10 :)
We booked this tour as we were keen to explore the area round Etna. It is not a particularly cheap option, but it is definitely worth the money. It really is a small group tour (there were seven of us, including the three members of my family) so there was plenty of space to ask questions and our guide, Tony, was lovely. He was friendly and good at conveying information without it becoming overpowering. We had some great conversations with him. His local knowledge (he came from one of the Etna hill villages) was invaluable - he was a mine of information on anything you asked - geology, geography, history, farming - you name it! The village of Castiglione, which was included in the tour, is definitely worth seeing. It is off the crowded tourist trail and full of character. The views from the ruined castle (practically every Sicilian village seems to have one) are stunning. Be aware that the surfaces and steps up to the castle are very uneven, so it is not for someone with serious mobility issues. As we had a little spare time after this before we were due at the first vineyard, Tony did a detour and showed us the remains of a Byzantine church en route. At the first vineyard (in our case the Tornatore vineyard) we were given a really interesting introduction to the different grape types (some very specific to the area) and wine growing areas round Etna. We were lucky in that the grapes were all on the vines and about to be harvested, so the vineyards did look stunning. Beware - Sicilian ideas of wine tasting are generous in the extreme - every new wine was given to us as an entire glassful. Don't plan to do anything demanding much concentration later... We were then taken to another vineyard for a very generous lunch with yet more wines, each tailored to the course we were having. One of our party was vegetarian, and this was catered for. An added advantage for my family was that the tour organisers picked us up directly from our hotel (we were staying in Castelmola, not Taomina). They had also organised this as an extra trip, their original ones having been fully booked - one could see why. I would definitely recommend this tour. It was the second one we had done with Etna People and we would use them again.
We were picked up at our hotel around 9:30 a.m. Roberto C. was a fantastic guide. Informative, cordial, patient and entertaining. It was great to spend the day with him. Our stop in Castiglione di Sicilia was a great way to start the day. The wines at Tornatore were a change of pace from California wines and so good. Our tour guide for the winery was from Napa and was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and the wine making process. Our final stop was at Emilio Sciacca Etna wines for a 4 course lunch and wine paring. We had a small group of 7 which made the experience casual and relaxing. Arrived back at our hotel around 5:30 p.m.
Loved learning about the town from Roberto! He was very knowledgeable. First winery was great, but we didn’t get to see all that much. We didn’t get to see any of the second winery when we had lunch and we didn’t try wines from the winery itself or even mt etna wines… would have loved for it to have been more of a wine tour! Our group was a ton of fun!
Roberto was an excellent guide who was knowledgeable, fun, and funny. Very accommodating to our every request. Excellent time
