Itinerary
Estancia Cristina has the great advantage of being extremely close to the Upsala Glacier, one of the most awe-inspiring sights in Los Glaciares National Park that’s only a few kilometers from our lodge. Perhaps the most unforgettable experience when staying with us is cruising along the waters of Lake Argentino, with soaring mountains and icebergs as a dramatic backdrop before reaching the face of mighty Upsala itself.
Estancia Cristina is tucked away in a pristine, north-westerly corner of Lake Argentino in Los Glaciares National Park, right at the furthest end of the Cristina Channel near the incredible Upsala Glacier. Our rural ranch is steeped in history, founded over a century ago in 1914 by Joseph and Jessie Masters, who came from the UK to start a new life in this beautiful yet utterly remote place.
We will glide over the waters of Lake Argentino’s Northern Arm to reach the furthest possible point of navigation in the Upsala Channel, where we can enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the Upsala Glacier’s immense front.

Fantastic experience with great guides and well organized. My best day in El Calafete. Between the selection of icebergs of views of various glaciers the lunch with great wine and a fantastic day.
This is a magical place! Great hiking options, horse back riding, and excellent food. The view from the rooms was amazing! The limited footprint and people make this a place where you can really decompress and get in touch with nature and youreself. Words cannot describe this place.
We consulted the operator if you reached the viewpoint of the Uppsala Glacier before buying tickets and were told that in any state you arrive because the walk is short to the viewpoint. When we arrived at the departure point for the walk, the guide tells us that he finds it unsafe and we did not do it. Then we were kept waiting a long time for a barely normal lunch and a visit to a small museum. On the way in the navigation to the glacier Uppsala is seen from a long way away and nothing is appreciated. The ticket is each worth more than $250 and what is delivered in return is not worth it at all. They should at least recognize that if they don’t make it to the viewpoint, because they find it insecure, they should return part of the payment. I was disappointed by the experience.
The full day boat trip 8:30AM to 6:30PM booking direct with Estancia Cristina is a not to be missed experience! We were blessed with beautiful weather all day. Not crowded, very professional, excellent and professional on the water and on the estancia. The lunch is amazing! This is a must do if you want a first class experience! Highly recommend! An excursion not to be missed after the Périto Moreno. Sailing to the Upsala glacier allows you to see large icebergs up close, the 4x4 safari in the forest to the panorama that dominates the glaciers is superb, not to mention the succulent estancia meal. We would like to thank in particular the guides who assisted my husband, with reduced mobility, throughout and, with their help, allowed him to access the panorama. Professionals particularly involved, with great empathy and concerned to satisfy the participants. Congratulations to them!
Estancia Cristina is a simply spectacular place. Surrounded by unspoilt nature, it offers a sublime view of the majestic and unforgettable Upsala Glacier. The silence, the colors of the lake and the immensity of the ice create a panorama of rare beauty. An authentic and breathtaking experience, not to be missed in Patagonia. ⭐
Beautiful excursion not to be missed on Lake Argentino and a 50-minute drive down a chaotic but worthwhile road to see the Upshala Glacier, and to finish a delicious meal at the estancia Christina
Excursion to Lake Argentino with icebergs and glacier Upsala very well, qualitative meal, empanadas, aperitif, quality wine, lamb meat to fall and vegetables. Dessert and coffee. An improvement, maybe the quantity of lamb a little limited but the whole meal is qualitative and we are more hungry. The staff and guides to the glacier are kind and considerate
Such a great experience! Boat ride to view the glacier from a distance but up real close to huge icebergs, quick tour of the Estancia Cristina museum, and an amazing lunch in a beautiful setting. Then the highlight, a 4x4 drive and little hike to the viewpoint overlooking Upsala Glacier. Friendly staff and incredible views. Recommended.
My Honest Review of Estancia Cristina & Mirador del Glaciar Upsala Visiting Estancia Cristina and the Upsala Glacier viewpoint was easily one of the best experiences I had in Patagonia. If you enjoy a mix of nature, history, and adventure, this is definitely worth your time. The journey itself is part of the experience. The boat ride across Lago Argentino was stunning, passing through floating icebergs and getting glimpses of the glacier from the water. The scenery feels untouched and raw — it’s hard not to just sit quietly and take it all in. Once at Estancia Cristina, the 4x4 drive up to the Mirador del Glaciar Upsala was bumpy but exciting. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking — a vast landscape of ice, mountains, and valleys. It’s not just the glacier itself, but the whole panorama that makes it special. It feels remote and wild in the best possible way. At the estancia, I really enjoyed learning about the history of the pioneers who settled there. It adds depth to the visit, making you appreciate how challenging life must have been in such an isolated place. A few tips: Dress for wind, cold, and sudden weather changes. The terrain is rugged — this isn’t a luxury tour, it’s more for nature lovers and adventurers. Bring snacks; lunch is included but basic. Final Thoughts: If you’re in El Calafate and want to see more than just the typical Perito Moreno tour, this is a unique and memorable day trip. It combines incredible landscapes, a bit of history, and the adventure of getting off the beaten path. ⭐ Rating: 5/5 — Highly recommended for nature lovers and photographers.
