Itinerary

Begin your 7-8 hours southwest scenic tour with a hotel pick-up anywhere in Mauritius. You will meet & be greeted by our certified guide and after boarding to your comfortable vehicle, then set off for your first stop.   You'll be heading to Trou Aux Cerfs which is one of the famous natural tourist attractions in Mauritius. The dormant volcanic crater is around 605 meters above sea level, with a diameter of 350 meters & a depth of around 100 meters. Unlike the typical volcanic features, Trou aux Cerfs’ crater is surrounded by a vast area of lush forest consisting of indigenous plant species and some giant green pine trees. It is believed that the Trou aux Cerfs erupted once and has remained dormant for the last 700 000 years; experts believe that there is a potential chance for it to become active again. Definitely, one of the main highlights is the 360-degree view of the town, Curepipe & the majestic view of Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis- Moka mountain range.

30 min

Afterward, heading to Mare Aux Vacoas reservoir which has the honor of being the largest reservoir on the island with a capacity of almost 26 million cubic meters and is simultaneously a rather popular stop for tourists visiting the south of the island. Although nothing as fancy as the other attractions in Mauritius, Mare aux Vacoas is a gem hidden between lines of thick forests. It is the perfect place to spend a relaxing few minutes away from the usual hustle and bustle of the country. The reservoir even offers a rather amazing view worth several clicks.

Admission included30 min

After some time, continue to Ganga Talao (commonly known as Grand Bassin is a crater lake, about 550 meters above sea level, located in the mountainous Southwest of Mauritius. On the shoreline sits a temple along with a collection of small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods. During your visit to this sacred site, you will inevitably be awestruck by the gigantic statue of Lord Shiva. However, fear not about your doom, at Grand Bassin you will find the Hindu God Lord Shiva, smiling and as peaceful as ever. The statue is 33 meters high & is the highest known statue in Mauritius. Ganga Talao is a major draw of crowds in Mauritius, with many people visiting the site to pray, meditate, or simply to walk by the lake and enjoy the gorgeous surrounding views. The lake of Ganga Talao is thought to be around 18 meters deep with a healthy population of fish in the lake.

From where you are, the waterfall looks like a silent white stream cascading over the rocky outcrops. You will also have a plunging look on Mauritius’s virgin green valley which is home to many endemic avian species and flora. You will need nothing more to soothe the eye.

30 min

Next, you'll head to Gorge Viewpoint, where you will stop for a stunning panoramic view of the endless green stretches. Amidst the unspoiled rainforest of Mauritius, there are almost 17,000 acres of rolling hills, deep valleys, spectacular waterfalls, and unparalleled beauty of flora and fauna in the southwestern region. You will be amazed to discover how high the viewing area is from the gorge. On the right side of the viewpoint, you can see a breathtaking waterfall. The path leading to the viewpoint has a unique ambiance of its own with some souvenir stalls. The Black River Gorges Nature Reserve was constructed in order to save the natural vegetation of the island and make it one of the most important Mauritian sights. The Black River Gorges National park protects most of the island's remaining rainforest and is home to many species of wild animals and birds.

120 min

After a few minutes driving, we will go through Chamarel village where you will be able to see the culture of this magnificent village which is completely different from other villages in Mauritius. You will have a choice and the chef will explain to you and ask you about your preferred choice.

Fun day out in beautiful Mauritius

Visit to Casela is a must for animal lovers, the big cat safari we added was amazing. Only downfall is you really need a day there to experience it fully if you want to take advantage of the extra experiences. Most of the experiences need notice so if you want to feed animals or walk with lions, book yourself in advance! Officially we over stayed here, but our private driver still managed to make sure we had lunch at the restaurant, actually a 3 course meal which was really good. We still managed to see the waterfall, visit some great viewing points and the enormous statues at the temple. We had a great driver/ guide Kavi who made our day. Would recommend.

Operator response

Glad you enjoyed your day at Casela and the Big Cat Safari — it really is a full experience for animal lovers 🐾 You’re absolutely right, the park has so many activities that a full day (and pre-booking for certain encounters like lion walks or animal feeding) makes a big difference to get the most out of it. Happy to hear Kavi took good care of you and still managed to fit in lunch, the waterfall, viewpoints, and the temple stops. That’s exactly the kind of flexibility we always aim for. Thanks for the recommendation — hope to welcome you back in Mauritius again soon 🌿

Amazing Experience And wonderful tour with Great Tour Guide Highly Recommend

It could not have been better. An Amazing tour through beautiful Mauritius and plenty of time at Casela Nature Park. Walk with the Lions was fantastic. Our Driver/ tour guide was terrific and local cuisine on tour was some of if not the best we had with our 4 days on Mauritius. This was a top notch tour.

Operator response

It sounds like you had an incredible day! 😊 We’re so glad you enjoyed the tour, especially your time at Casela Nature Park and the unforgettable Walk with the Lions experience. Your kind words about the driver and the local cuisine mean a lot to us too. Thank you for sharing—truly happy it was a top-notch experience for you! 🌴

Well worth it

Our driver Darren was brilliant, if I could give him 10 stars I would, His knowledge and professionalism was amazing and we had some great conversations, thank you. Our time at Casela, the wildlife park was very short and mostly spent waiting for transport within the park. The reason I marked this down was due to the administrative processes that thankfully Darren swiftly sorted, but we're very time consuming and not what you need. The trio is very worthwhile, not only do you get to see some real gems on the island you also get to see a bit more of life inland too

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re really happy to hear that Darren made such a great impression with his knowledge, professionalism, and friendly conversations. We’ll be sure to pass on your kind words to him. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the administrative process and the short time at Casela, as it helps us improve the overall experience. Glad you still enjoyed discovering some of the island’s beautiful gems and inland life in Mauritius 🌴

Too much not enough time

Well it said 830 start. Then I got comformation email saying 745 then I get text from driver saying 715 that's too early couldn't have breakfast we decided on 745 he wanted early because of traffic. We got to casela at 930. So only two hours there. not long enough to see everything. Then drove long way for lunch which was very nice big portion very fresh. No complaints. By that time it's 130 we wanted to see the grand basin so told driver forget other stops just go there. Had enough time just on half hour then home all up 8 hours not drivers fault he did good. But if you up north then you can't do everything they said in tour we didn't reliaze how long to drive. The operater should say this tour starts south. Be say pickup anywhere on island. We were a bit disappointed

Operator response

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We sincerely apologize for the confusion regarding the pickup time and the impact it had on your breakfast and overall schedule. We understand that traveling from the north made it difficult to enjoy the full tour at Casela and the other planned stops. We’re glad to hear that the lunch and driver service met your expectations. Your comments about clarifying the starting point and tour duration have been shared with our team to help improve communication for future guests. We appreciate your understanding and hope to welcome you again with a smoother experience

Be careful with the booked services !

We did the work and have already booked this tour from Germany. As a family with children without any great knowledge of English, we valued a German-speaking guide and let us taste it! Our guide of course spoke only English - was still good, yet we were allowed to translate everything synchronously -=> did not correspond to the booked service. The pick-up time was set at 8:30 as per booking confirmation. One evening before we were informed by email that we will be picked up at 7:45. All interventions were ignored. (eMail / Tel.) The Avowed Agency had delegated the order to another tens of freelancers, so all the information was wrong, driver was called something else, agency was also called, telephone numbers etc. Bottled water was also not available, this is not fatal now, but booked is booked. Everything else was great, by the way, these cardinal errors, we are currently still clarifying with the organizer, by the way under threat of a complete chargeback ;-)

Operator response

We sincerely apologize that your experience did not meet the expectations of your booking. We regret the issues with the German-speaking guide, the last-minute change to your pick-up time, and the inconsistent information from the delegated team. We understand how frustrating this must have been, especially for a family traveling with children. Your feedback has been shared with our team to improve communication, coordination, and accuracy in future tours. We are pleased to hear that, aside from these issues, you enjoyed other aspects of the tour, and we hope to provide a smoother experience in the future.

Ok

Trip was average. The safari park was nice although felt staff were not informative enough on the jeep safari. Moved on to various view points around the island although because you are up high in the rain forests very misty so we skipped stopping (at our request) as there was no point ! Lunch was good in a local Mauritian restaurant . We didn’t get the promised cool water in car . David our driver was very nice although I felt we were asking the questions . it would have been nice to be told more about the island without having to ask . In general spent a lot of time in the car And the description on the site makes it sound a lot more exciting than it was .

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. 🌴 We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the safari park, lunch, and that David made your day pleasant. We appreciate your comments about the tour pace and information—these are very helpful for us to improve future experiences. We hope to welcome you back for a more exciting adventure around the island! ☀️⛵

Disappointed

Our group of 15 unanimously agreed that this was the worst tour we have ever experienced. Communication was nearly non-existent from the start. We were never told where to meet and ended up wandering outside the cruise gates searching for the tour operator, despite attempting to reach them through text, WhatsApp, Viator and TripAdvisor. Interestingly, they had no issue driving us directly back to the ship at the end. The guides spoke very little English and offered no explanation of where we were going or what we were passing along the way. They were not certified guides, which became obvious quickly. The itinerary was not followed: we were taken to a miniature shipbuilding shop that was not on the list, and several scheduled stops had to be skipped just so we could make it to the nature park on time. Water was supposed to be provided but never was. We also had to argue to have the included lunch covered. In the absence of any organization from the tour operators, one of the guests had to coordinate the group in the morning, and another traveler had to step in to ensure we actually visited the places we were promised. The lunch itself was good, and while Casela Park felt more like a children’s park, we managed to enjoy the safari and roller coaster. However, these small positives do not make up for the overall chaos, lack of communication, and failure to deliver what was promised. I genuinely want to save others from this experience. Given how far this tour fell below expectations and advertised inclusions, I believe a refund is warranted—at minimum, for everything except the lunch and Casela Park entry.

Operator response

We are sincerely sorry to hear about your experience and apologize that the tour did not meet your expectations. The communication issues, confusion over the itinerary, and lack of guidance you describe are not acceptable and do not reflect the standard of service we aim to provide. Your feedback is very important to us, and we encourage you to contact us directly with your booking details so we can review the situation. We take your comments seriously and appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention.
