It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

This is a very good tour. The guide is very knowledgeable and shares her love for the history of the island in a way that is informative, interesting and entertaining. Also learned a few good places to shop and eat.

Amelia is an incredibly beautiful and historically deep island. Thousands of years of stories of Indian, Pirates and Explorers. It's always a fun trip out back in time with our passionate guides!
Pros: The tour guide was very informative and entertaining. Great historical information. Cons: Van has very tight seating. Too much time is spent sitting at one spot. It would have been better had the guide gave the information while driving around the area. I had hoped we would see more of the Island.

We have always regarded the history and the location of the flags as in most likely places to be the best to discuss the actual history of the flags. I do really take your point about keeping on moving and taking in other locations on the island, and that is something we will look into with a view to change?
