This Rose Hall Great House is an early 18th century plantation home that sits on a high elevation on thousands of acres in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. The Rose Hall Great House was once owned by the famous and certainly one of the wickedest plantation owners to walk the land of Jamaica, Annie Palmer. She owned hundreds of slaves. This house became haunted after her gruesome death in 1831. The house is scary to look at even in the daytime. There is no stop at the Rose all Great House on your way to Negril however, your tour guide will tell you the history and slow down so that you can take photos.

The Greenwood Great House (Plantation home) was constructed in the early 18th Century. Like most, if not all the other Great Houses in Jamaica, the Greenwood Great House was built at high elevation. One could say that this was a strategy used back in the plantation era as a means of overlooking the plantation and also for security purposes. This house, unlike the Rose Hall Great House, is not haunted but of a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The history and the architecture of the house is what will blow you away. As you pass by, feel free to take photos when your tour guide slows down.

The town of Discovery Bay is where you will find Columbus Park. It was originally named Puerto Seco “Dry Harbour” by Christopher Columbus in 1494 when he and his men landed on the Island. It is said that could not find fresh water to drink. They later found fresh water in another area about 5 miles west of the town. The water was so good that they named the location where it was found Rio Bueno “Good River”. However, the town of Puerto Seco was later renamed in 1947 to Discovery Bay because Discovery Bay is where the Spanish, lead by Christopher Columbus landed when they invaded the Island on May 4, 1494. There is a park with several old relics and artifacts on display (Park temporarily close for renovations). There will be a brief stop to take photos and capture the rich history of this historic town.

This tour takes you through one of the most popular towns on the Island. Runaway Bay is naturally beautiful and is certainly one of the most scenic areas in Jamaica. It sits between the beautiful, crisp coastline to one side and the lush green mountains to the other. There is much debate as to how the town of Runaway Bay got its name. some people believe it got the name because that is where the last batch of Spanish soldiers ran away from when they were retreating from the attacking British Troops lead by Governor Ysassi right after the 1655 British invasion of Jamaica, while other argue that it was the point from which the Slaves from inland plantations used as an escape route to runaway to Cuba. Get your cameras ready to go as you make your way through this area.

The heartbeat of the garden parish of St. Ann, the resort area of Ocho Rios is the nature lover’s paradise. As previously thought to be watered by eight rivers (as its name suggests) Ocho Rios provides a lush landscape of caves, gardens, rivers and white sand beaches. The name Ocho Rios actually derives from “Las Choreras” meaning “waterfalls” and may be a reflection of the many waterfalls in the area. From the Fern Gully located in the remains of an old river bed to the tiered waterfalls of Dunn’s River, Blue Hole and the Secret Falls, arguably, Jamaica’s most popular attractions, Ocho Rios draws thousands of visitors back to arguably the island’s most romantic, picturesque resort area. Ocho Rios is a small “Colonial Styled Town” with a population of approximately 25 thousand. “The Centerpiece of Jamaica”, Ocho Rios provides a range of activities from golf to watersports to equestrian and soft adventure activities. The area is approximately equidistant between the island’s two cities – Kingston and Montego Bay, providing excellent access from both international airports. The birthplace of Bob Marley and Marcus Garvey, Ocho Rios offers a variety of cultural experiences – Marley’s mausoleum at Nine Miles, Reggae Xplosion and Seville Heritage Park all help to chronicle Jamaica’s experience in story and song.

Our driver Colby made our trip the best!

This trip was outstanding!. Our driver (Colby Johnson) called me and verified his arrival time to pick us up at our Iberostar Beach hotel. We chose the late trip starting at 12pm, and I am so glad we chose that time! My family was the only ones on this trip. Colby narrated to us in his comfy van about all the key sights on our drive. He pulled over to show us look-out points, talked to us about the island people, size, culture, showed us an Ackee tree and told us about Jamaican food. He even stopped by Starbucks as a special request from my daughter. Right before we got to the falls he took us to a store where we could buy some $10 water shoes to use at the falls. The falls were so great. Just the four of us plus a guide and a photographer. We started from the beach and climbed to the top of the falls through the water. The photographer took videos and photos of us the entire way up and our guide used our own cell phone that we carried in a waterproof case to also take photos. We ended buying the photographer’s photos since they were so good. He downloaded every photo he took to our cell phones for $40. I was glad our driver warned us about not accepting “gifts” from the local peddlers on the way back to the car, since we were approached by many trying to use that selling tactic. Next, Colby took us to a wonderful dinner at a local jerk restaurant and we had chicken, fried dumplings and a fried bread called “festivals”. Finally, we went to the luminous lagoon where we boarded the boat and played in the glowing water. My cell phone could not capture a good photo in the dark, but at least the photo I am attaching shows the beautiful blue glow of the water when you move it. The entire day was magical! Not only that, but Colby also told us about local horseback riding (half the cost of advertised tours) and diving sites and best shopping sites. He arranged our transportation for many of our other activities for our vacation. We had a really super fun holiday!

Soooo cool

This was a great excursion! The Luminous Lagoon was sooo cool. I wasn't sure how it would be because of past reviews but it was soo worth it! We had a great driver that took us the whole day and taught us all about Jamaica. His name was Copley and we highly recommend him.

Luminous lagoon not worth it

The Dunn's Fall was nice although you are supposed to climb holding hands and that doesn't make it the best experience. The luminous lagoon was pretty disappointing tbh. I believe you need to go on a veryy dark night with no fog or rain. We had rain but still, the contrast in the water wasn't much although the pictures look good

Our tour driver was...

Our tour driver was great. But we didn’t get to stop at Scotchies which was a big reason we chose that specific tour option. It was also a lot of time in the car.

Best experience in Jamaica trip

We initially booked for Dunn's River and Luminous Lagoon. However, the tour didn't have enough people, so they asked to change us to do Blue Hole and Dunn's River Falls instead at no additional charge. It was the most amazing experience, especially at the Blue Hole Falls. Our guides were experts around those falls and help us navigate to have optimal fun and be safe. Our driver, Clive, was also wonderful and friendly as well.

Excursion exchange without returning money

Tour booked and paid for one month in advance. The day before departure, we are advised to tell us that you cannot go to the Lagoon Luminosa because there is not enough capacity (to charge it, if enough). However, they tell us that they compensate us with a superior excursion!!! We search for it on their website and the compensation costs $52 less, so nothing superior. We say it, and it is no longer superior, they say in writing that they return the difference money. Three weeks later, the money is neither returned nor expected. The tour itself has an excellent guide, Marlon, and what we saw was very nice, especially the Dunn River Falls. The blue hole is beautiful, but there the guide was a disaster, scolding, running, screaming. A group of 21 people left $0 tip.

Challenging but Beautiful and so Worth it!

Gorgeous waterfalls! Alot of intense climbing so if you can't even handle just plain steps this might not be for you! Pack water shoes and a water case with a string for your pictures. They are big on appreciating your tour guides so tips are appreciated. They LOVE American money so its no problem if you have it. Water fall was gorgeous and you will be constantly wet going up and down into the water. Also be ready to be a little sore from the climbing. Mr. Moses our guide was the sweetest and most helpful for my friend afraid of heights. Beautiful and Challenging experience 10/10 amazing!
