The first sight on the tour is Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque which is truly a masterpiece of the world architecture. It took 6 years to erect it and in 2001 it was successfully opened. This mosque is a traditional light Islamic building made from sandstone and marble. It has got 5 minarets – one main and 4 side minarets which create a special distinctive look. The internal design is rich in mosaics, huge handmade Persian carpets and chandeliers decorated with crystals.
The pearl of the Oman musical and stage art.
Mutrah Souq, Mutrah Market Near Mutrah Corniche. That’s an ideal place if you want to have a look at the ordinary life of Oman. Just go along the rows, look for the items, bargain and have fun as here you can find everything starting from spices finishing traditional rugs, vases or just souvenirs.
You can admire the beauty of Muscat from the observation deck at the fort.
Residence of Sultan Qaboos. From both sides the forts surround the palace, so you’ll likely enjoy the magnificent scenery. Located in the center of the city, it always attracts a lot of visitors and, although, people are not allowed to go in, they can easily go around and take cool photos.
Bait Al Zubair is cultural foundation started initially with a private museum that opened its carved wooden doors to the public in 1998. It is funded by its founders, the Zubair family. In 2005 the family established the Bait Al Zubair Foundation as the cultural and social arm of the family-owned business, The Zubair Corporation. The Foundation manages the cultural space and develops projects relating to culture and heritage, the arts, the community, history and publishing. Bait al Zubair displays the family’s collection of Omani artefacts that spans a number of centuries, and is considered to be the finest that is privately owned. Its ethnographic artefacts reflect highly specialised inherited skills that define Oman’s society, both past and present. It is one of the country’s architectural icons and in 1999 was the proud recipient of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’ Award for Architectural Excellence, the first time it was awarded in Oman.

Muscat highlights tour is a must do especially with Mohammed Aldighaishi of GidOman Tours. The two major architectural gems of Muscat - the Grand Mosque & the Opera House - are not merely to be “seen” but also understood; therefore I would strongly recommend going with a guide like Mo who points out interesting aspects which otherwise one may miss. The tour is nearly 6-7 hours long but not tiresome - Mo is full of jokes & loves interacting with tourists. Towards Lunchtime, he recommended Bait Al Luban - an authentic Omani restaurant in Muttrah which we loved ! When we visited the Opera house, he pointed out that the main auditorium was out of bounds on account of rehearsals; so while other tourists dutifully bought tickets , Mo took us on a detailed trip of the free areas & explained everything so well. I would suggest planning the City tour as soon as possible in your travel itinerary as it gives a great introduction to the city. Plus it gives you an opportunity to revisit the Grand Mosque on a free day taking in the majestic architecture & vibe leisurely by yourself. Catching a musical at the Opera house is a must do while in Muscat & tickets can be booked in advance online. For the Muscat city tour, We chose a small group tour & made some great travel friends.

Very friendly guide- informative with decent knowledge of the sites we visited (all interesting) and Omani history. The lunch arranged for us at a local restaurant was a bit late (after 2pm) and average food.
