After a pleasant drive through the beautiful countryside we will reach Trakoscan - most famous and best preserved Croatian castle. Castle was first built in the late 13th or early 14th Century as a small defensive fortress. Complex of Trakošćan we have today, a romanticist synergy of architecture and nature, is a result of 19th century. Castle was reconstructed in neo – gothic style and surrounding landscape including a lake emerged after the model of English park. You will see a valuable collection of paintings, furniture and weapons and enjoy walking around the picturesque lake surrounding the castle.

150 min

Varazdin, often refered as „Little Vienna“, is a city in Northern Croatia famous for the intact Baroque architecture. You will walk the cobbled streets of the city to see historical squares, churches and palaces, charming town hall and the most important cultural monument of the city - gothic-renaissance Old Town or Varazdin Castle with a museum (museum is closed on Mondays). It is also possible to arrange a guided walking tour of the city delivered by a local experienced guide. Beautiful Visit to Countryside Croatia!!

We were met promptly at our hotel by Tom from Mapping Croatia. He spoke perfect English and told us some of the history of what we were going to see as we left Zagreb. We walked through the town at the first stop, then walked through the palace. Very pretty, not super grand, but nice. We then got back in the car to continue to the second location. Gorgeous countryside, VERY windy roads, with continuous hairpin turns - unfortunately, I got very carsick. When we hit to the second castle, I was too ill to go up the hill to view it. I highly recommend this as a day trip from Zagreb, but also HIGHLY recommend taking something before the trip, if you are prone to motion sickness!! Thank you to Tom for a nice day and his kindness when I didn’t feel well!!

A Great Way to See Less-Touristy Parts of Croatia

Lawrence was an amazing guide! He really made sure we got the most out of our trip. And Tamara was the local guide in Varaždin. She was extremely knowledgeable, and also seemed to know everyone in town! Make sure you ask her to get you the local pastry which is basically a delicious breadstick! This was a fantastic way to get to see an area of Croatia that isn't heavily travelled... at least not yet!

Great private tour! Tom...

Great private tour! Tom was an amazing and a great tour guide. He picked us from our hotel and even provided us with umbrellas for the horrible weather. He guided us around the castles, giving us an insight to the history of the castle and town. We had a good laugh throughout our drive, and I'm sure we kept him entertained with our Scottish banter. He even provided us with recommendations for restaurants and other places to visit in Zagreb, Croatia. For our tour of Varaždin, we were lucky to have our tour guide Rajko. Being a history professor, we heard many stories and history of this town. Showing us different architecture, historical sites and the scenery of Varaždin. Would definitely recommend booking this private tour with Tom and Rajko. Thanks again for making our tour amazing!.
