Debrelibanos is an important Monastic center for Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. The Monastery is 100 km away from Addis,was founded by renowned 13 century mystic, St Teklehaimanot. After visiting the Monastery we will stop at Jemma River,one of the tributaries of Nile We will walk down to the 17th century Portuguese Bridge with a fabulous waterfall. Expected to see a variety of birds and endemic mammals,Galada baboons. leaving the gorge and driving through the Ethiopian Rural village with grass roof house and lush mountain countryside back to Addis.

Explore Debra Libanos Monastry and the Portuguese Bridge and the cave saint Teklehaimanot use to pray in 1280. the jemma valley have a nice waterfall from the Portuguese bridge in the late 15 century and one of the tributaries of Blue nile River. The Land scape during the road drive is amaizing with some stop at cliff side of the gorge. A number of gelada baboons are another seen at debrelibanos cliff

- Your tour begins with morning pickup from your Addis Ababa hotel. Driving to the Rurar village for 2 hours with beautiful Landscape and arriving historic churches of Debrelibanos visit the attached museum. For 2 hours spending at the sight and visit Portuguese Bridge—a historical bridge popular for its views of the surrounding valley. Eat lunch at a restaurant with views of the Jemma River Gorge, head into the Entoto Mountains and admire views and snap some photos and enjoy free time at every stop. Tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
- Return Back after the sight seeing is take 2 hours time,so taking photo at the good view point and Coffee time at the country side are available and drive through Entoto Mountain is optional based of the time and interest,finally drop you to the hotel or any place you want to go.

Highly recommend this tour! A great mix of culture, nature and animals! You really get it all on this tour!! You drive through 2.5 hours of beautiful Ethiopian country side, then you get a tour of a very historical beautiful church, followed by a tour to the Portuguese Bridge and a beautiful view of the Blue Nile Gorge! Even got to see the Gelada Baboon monkey, only found in Ethiopia :) Amazing tour guide who knew the area very well and was a great host!! Thanks again!!
Debre Libanos is a must-visit for those exploring Ethiopia’s history and spirituality. Our tour guide and driver Kenaw was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the monastery’s rich history. The peaceful atmosphere of the 13th-century site, combined with its beautiful Ethiopian Orthodox architecture, made it truly special. The views of the Jemma River Gorge were breathtaking, especially from the Portuguese Bridge. We even spotted Gelada baboons along the cliffs. A great day trip from Addis Ababa, perfect for history, nature, and culture lovers alike! Highly recommend!
