Pekan Nabalu is a rest station about 12km before Kinabalu Park along the main road from KK City. A popular stopping ground for visitors, the area features a shopping complex with local products and souvenirs, fruit market, restaurants, public restroom and lookout point with observatory platform. Its most prominent landmark is a 15-meter watchtower that overlooks Mount Kinabalu.
Poring is known for its hot sulphur spring bath which was first developed by the Japanese during world war II. The hot waters of the spring are piped into open-air baths. Indoor bathtub is also available for those who preferred privacy. At Poring you could experience the breathtaking treetop walk on the 43m tall canopy walkway. Rafflesia, the largest flower in the world is one of the main attractions here. (Please be noted Rafflesia flower depends on the blooming time and on guest's own expenses)
The main entry point for visitors is the Park Headquarters located about 92 km on the Kota Kinabalu - east coast highway lying at an elevation 1,520m above sea levels. Cooler climates attracted over 250,000 visitors in 2009 with about 47,000 made the attempt to conquer the peak. The administrative center is located in the 'Conservation Center' building. Also in the same building is the Research and Education offices and facilities.

The park was beautiful and our guide was very familiar with local history and botany. However, the hike was much shorter than we had anticipated. The visit to the local market was clearly a money grab and not appreciated. The hot springs were way too commercial and not enjoyable. We had heard that the best part of Proing Hot Springs was the canopy tour and that was closed on the day of our tour. Very disappointing.
Wonderful, the experience is very fun, not recommended for people with vertigo....the only catch is that we could not relax during the trip because the driver was a little tired and seemed to fall asleep. Otherwise all great, the guide was a charm.
Had a great day on the tour. Our tour guide helped me with the hike as I didn’t think I’d be able to finish. He was great and very knowledgeable about all the plants and had a lot of information that he shared. The whole tour was very good and included a lot of different spots and additional options. I really recommend this tour.
I will try to be fair with this review. We did in fact (just about) do all of the things mentioned on the website. We were also able to see a rafflesia blooming as a bonus. Our tour guide didn’t really seem to know much about the flower, nor the history of the poring hot springs. Furthermore, we almost didn’t make it into the Kinabalu park in time and did not have time to see the botanical gardens in time (that would have been a highlight for me). The bus went to the wrong location for our accommodation, and perhaps due to this reason, we left 30 minutes later than scheduled. I felt that the tour guide was poorly organised. I am almost giving a 2/5, but I will (perhaps generously) give a 3/5 because it was just about “adequate”. Any worse and I would have asked for my money back. Sadly, I would avoid this tour.
