Sultan Abu Al-Nasr Sayf ad-Din Al-Ashraf Qaitbay (Arabic: السلطان أبو النصر سيف الدين الأشرف قايتباي‎) (c. 1416/1418 – 7 August 1496) was the eighteenth Burji Mamluk Sultan of Egypt from 872-901 A.H. (1468-1496 C.E.). (Other transliterations of his name include Qaytbay and Kait Bey.) He was Circassian by birth, and was purchased by the ninth sultan Barsbay (1422 to 1438 C.E.) before being freed by the eleventh Sultan Jaqmaq (1438 to 1453 C.E.). During his reign, he stabilized the Mamluk state and economy, consolidated the northern boundaries of the Sultanate with the Ottoman Empire, engaged in trade with other contemporaneous polities, and emerged as a great patron of art and architecture. In fact, although Qaitbay fought sixteen military campaigns, he is best remembered for the spectacular building projects that he sponsored, leaving his mark as an architectural patron on Mecca, Medina, Jerusalem, Damascus, Aleppo, Alexandria, and every quarter of Cairo. The Roman Amphitheatre is one of Alexandria's most popular monuments. This is Egypt's second most important city, after the capital, Cairo. While the amphitheaters were spread throught different countries like Greece, Italy, and Turkey during the reign of the Romans with many examples of these structures still present in many regions around Europe and the Middle East, the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria is the only one of its type in Egypt.

Excellent

"My tour of Alexandria with Emo Tours was fantastic. My driver, Essa, was an absolute gem. He made me feel incredibly comfortable from the very first hour, and by the end of the trip, we felt like friends. He provided excellent descriptions of every place we visited and was very accommodating, allowing me to explore each attraction at my own pace. He even went above and beyond by finding a barber shop on our way back so I could get a beard trim. With Emo Tours, there are no scams, no pressure to tip, and no forced shopping stops—you get exactly what you pay for. An awesome day, and a well-deserved 5 stars to Essa!"

Our driver was amazing,...

Our driver was amazing, so nice and so knowledgeable. He’s the only reason this wasn’t 1/5 stars. Our guide was awful. Seriously awful. In the catacombs, she rushed us through it and skipped all levels except the first one (while every other tour went), then at the Roman amphitheater and citadel she didn’t walk with us. She gave a 30 second overview of each and gave us “free time” no explanation of anything throughout each site. Again, every other guide was with their group. The mosque, we walked up to it and had to take off our shoes (expected) but the locals all carried theirs and she made us give them to a man there to hold them who of course expected us go pay to get them back!! He wasn’t happy with the tip my husband left and was trying to get more while she just ignored the entire situation. We aren’t Muslim and have never been in a mosque so we only know the very basic etiquette, but again she just stood outside. The library was unfortunately closed but the only reason we even walked around it was because our driver got out of the car. The guide just staid inside. We have had other guides throughout our trip that were amazing and taught us so much while also making it a priority to make us feel safe. She left us in several uncomfortable situations, like insisting we use the bathroom at one site bc it was “nicer” for us to then just not be able to leave said bathrooms without tipping (this is with me saying no thank you to the hand dryer bc I figured it would result in a tip). And again she was nowhere do be found. I would not recommend this tour if you actually want to learn something. We learned more from reading the signs at each site.

I had a great time got...

I had a great time got picked up on time and I was running a bit late but thankfully it was all okay! Got to see all of Alexandria with Mohammed i believe. Im horrible at names! He showed me around with catacombs the old bath houses and of course where the mainline house used to be. Plus the beautiful mosque we made it right before prayer which was a cool site to see! Lunch was great with a great view and slept on the way back bc I was so exhausted after the 4 days in Ciaro. Thank you again for everything!

Alexandria Day Tour from Cairo – Excellent Experience Overall

I had a wonderful day tour to Alexandria from Cairo, and overall it was a very positive experience. The tour guide, a lady, was absolutely amazing. She provided me with so many detailed explanations about the beautiful city, sharing anecdotes, historical background, and valuable local knowledge. She is truly wonderful, extremely knowledgeable, and very caring toward tourists. Thanks to her passion and attention, Alexandria came to life in a very special way. The driver was friendly and polite; however, there are two aspects I did not appreciate. Unfortunately, the driver could not speak English, which made communication difficult at times. In addition, I felt uncomfortable because he was filming me while I was in the car, and I was not informed of the reason for this. Despite these points, the tour itself was excellent and very well organized, and the tour guide made the experience truly memorable. I would still highly recommend this day tour.

Excellent professional tour

This was an excellent tour to Alexandria so professional run, would highly recommend Emo Tours. Our driver, Waleed, was excellent pointing out things along the way, making a huge effort to talk to use using a phone translator. Our female guide, Cherie was also excellent she really knew all the relevant information about the sites. She organised us an upgraded lunch on the waterfront which was excellent. Just a really enjoyable day, although it is a long drive Cairo

It was good but not even...

It was good but not even close to visiting the pyramids and sphinx etc. our driver was excellent but the guide was ok. The lunch included in the tour the KYC hero which is the national Egyptian didh was ok but perhaps we needed some other choice as well rather than one dish. The highlight was the castle built on the edge of Mediterranean Sea with spectacular views

The not so private tour of Alexandria

My wife & I booked this private Alexandria tour expecting a seamless, personalized experience based on the itinerary, but unfortunately it fell short in several key areas. To start, the transportation did not meet expectations for a long 3-hour drive from Cairo. The vehicle seats were covered in dusty plastic wrapping, which ended up dirtying my white shorts. This is definitely not what you’d expect from a “private tour” experience. Things became more frustrating upon arrival in Alexandria. When we met our guide, we were informed, without any prior notice, that another person would be joining our “private” tour. This completely contradicted what was advertised and paid for. Not only did this diminish the private experience, but it also introduced unnecessary delays. The additional guest got lost and was over 15 minutes late to the meeting point at the Citadel of Qaitbay, and then required extra stops which disrupted the flow of the day. The itinerary itself was also impacted. Because the additional person’s tour package did not include lunch and entry fees, our schedule was rearranged to accommodate them. We had to wait upon arrival to some stops for the additional guest to purchase their tickets and Instead of breaking up the day with a meal as expected, lunch was pushed to the very end after all tour stops to accommodate them. After a long day of travel and sightseeing, this made the experience unnecessarily exhausting. While the sites themselves were impressive and worth seeing, the execution of the tour did not align with what was advertised. A private tour should mean just that; private, well-organized, and tailored to the group that booked it. Unfortunately, the lack of communication, added guest, and logistical issues made this a disappointing experience overall.

Regular

The tour started 1 hour late. Communicating with the agency is very difficult. They took us in a car in bad condition and dirty. On the part of the tour in Alexandria a good guide very friendly and with good disposition and knowledge.
