Visit the ancient town of Madaba, known for its mosaic, particularly its 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. Climb up to Mount Nebo, an essential Judeo-Christian pilgrimage site, where Prophet Moses first viewed the Promised Land and is said to have died there. And indulge in a scenic view of the Holy Land and the Jordan River Valley from the summit. Continue to the Baptism site of Jesus Christ, known as ‘Maghtas’ in Arabic, which is considered one of the three holiest sites of Christianity. It is the place where John baptized Jesus Christ.

Departure is from Amman. After pick up from your hotel, hop into a climate-controlled vehicle with a private English-speaking driver and Wi-Fi on board. Observe and gaze at Jordan’s desert landscapes as you travel south to Madaba. The driver will assist you with places of interest and provide specific information along the route; however, they will not act as a guide. Upon arrival, discover this ancient mosaic town with a history spanning back to the 2nd century. The most well-known is the mosaic map of Jordan and the Holy Land of the 6th century in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, marked with points related to historical stories mentioned in the bible.
This 19th-century Roman Catholic church offers a unique attraction: you can climb its bell tower for a panoramic view of the city of Madaba.
Then climb up to Mount Nebo, a sacred Mountain in Jordan, standing at approximately 817 meters above sea level. Mount Nebo is steeped in religious significance as it presents an important Judeo-Christian pilgrimage site. It is where Moses first viewed the Promised Land from the summit and where Prophet Moses is said to have died. Moreover, Egyptian monks built a small monastery on the summit in memory of Moses In the fourth century, this church was then reconstructed into a basilica. This basilica, which still stands on Mount Nebo today, boasts a collection of well-preserved Byzantine mosaics. The mosaics illustrate images of wildlife and hunting. This site is not only a point of interest for history enthusiasts, however, offers a panoramic view of the Holy Land and the Jordan River Valley from the summit.
The Baptism Site of Jesus Christ is located on the Jordan side of the Jordan River. It was known as Bethany beyond the Jordan in the Biblical time, & is considered one of the three holiest sites of Christianity; it is where Jesus Christ has been baptized by John. Therefore, marking a significant historical and religious event. Get the chance to pray in this important pilgrimage site where many prophets have passed The Baptism Site, known as ‘Maghtas’ in Arabic is one of the most important recent discoveries in biblical archaeology. Excavations only began there in 1996; however, they have already unveiled more than 20 churches, caves, & baptismal pools dating from the Roman and Byzantine periods. Grasp a unique experience at this historical site, preserved exactly how it was over 2000 years ago, filled with much flora and fauna After indulging & experiencing these holy sights & reveling in the panoramic views, reconvene with your driver for the return, ending with a hotel drop-off.

Found I had an extra day in Amman so booked this trip at the last minute. Picked up by Ibrahim right on time. He smartly suggested an alternate itinerary to help avoid the heat of the day, so we started at the Baptismal site. Very interesting to see the old church locations. A group was also baptized in the Jordan while we were there which was cool to see. Then off to Mt Nebo. Awesome views of the Dead Sea and Jericho. And the old mosaics in the church were intricate. Quick stop at a mosaic store where they showed handcrafted mosaics painstakingly done by women which can take them months to complete. Then off to St George’s church and the Beheading of John the Baptist Church. Lots of interesting things in John the Baptist Church including the old well and the bell tower where you can see the surrounding area. On way back, Ibrahim made a quick pit stop and got us some juice from a stand which was refreshing after a long day. Quick notes and “good to knows”: none of the itinerary is covered by Jordan Pass which was disappointing since I thought a couple of the places would be. Ibrahim had water available which was very nice and needed. No food stops, so plan accordingly or work that out with the driver. Overall a good experience.

The tour was wonderful, visited Citadel, Román theatre and king Abdullah blue mis que. Then allá the way to Madaba city : St George, st John churches, everything was amazing historial sites, finally to Mount nebo. Bader was our guide in this experience, because he speaks several languages and we could converse in Spanish, his treatment was very friendly and pleasant as he knows very well the tourist sites we visited. You should take this tour because you tour sites of great historical importance accompanied by local people who guide and help you along the way.
