Day Tour Anuradhapura from Kandy by Lux Tours Lanka

Description
The ruins of Anuradhapura are one of South Asia’s most evocative sights. The sprawling complex contains a rich collection of archaeological and architectural wonders: enormous dagobas (brick stupas), ancient pools and crumbling temples, built during Anuradhapura’s thousand years of rule over Sri Lanka. Today, several of the sites remain in use as holy places and temples; frequent ceremonies give Anuradhapura a vibrancy that’s a sharp contrast to the museum-like ambience at Polonnaruwa.

Itinerary
This charming rock temple, dating from the reign of Devanampiya Tissa (r 307–267 BC), is set around a lovely lotus pond, the corner of which is carved with images of elephants playfully splashing water. The central temple has some particularly fine mural paintings. Climb around the back to the rock summit to see the bell-shaped stupa and a pair of Buddha footprints etched into the rock.
This magnificent white dagoba is guarded by a wall with a frieze of 344 elephants standing shoulder to shoulder. Apart from a few beside the western entrance, most are modern replacements of the originals from 140 BC. Today, after incurring much damage from invading Indian forces, it rises 55m, considerably less than its original height; nor is its form the same as the earlier ‘bubble’ shape.
The Jetavanarama Dagoba’s massive dome rises above the entire eastern part of Anuradhapura. Built in the 3rd century by King Mahasena, it may have originally topped 120m, but today is about 70m – similar to the Abhayagiri. When it was built it was almost certainly the third-tallest monument in the world, the first two being Egyptian pyramids.
Ratnaprasada
Mihintale is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site, and the site of several religious monuments and abandoned structures.

Amazing staff and experience. Very professional and alwsys available for any request. Very kind and available for extra support if needed. We discovered with them the real sri lanka. 100% recommended. Our drivers were Kesara and Chana, professionals and also funny, we felt like at home!!!
Very good Guide! We had a nice day in Kandy for a correct price! Everything was fine, as were the activities.
llent and he arranged a good tour guide. However, after we booked and paid for the tour the tour operator contacted us to say the price had gone up, that we should seek a refund and then pay the new, higher price in cash! I refused to do this and instead paid the difference between the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ price which was $14USD.
Where to begin. My travels were filled with Parell, injuries in Colombo, sleep deprivation and so on unitil we finally arrived in Kandy and were lucky enough to make the acquaintance of Laxman. By far one of the most genuine and caring individuals I have ever met. Laxman begins his days by waking in the early mornings by harvesting lotus flowers arranging them in bouquets as an offering to Buddha at the world renounded temple of the golen buddha's tooth then spends his day's searching for people to offer his sevices to. His tours all encompassing wellness, care the most incredible deals ever all with the hope of assuring those in his care good Karma. I can not stress enough how amazing this person is. Good luck, take care and enjoy your travels.
