Dark Historical Verona Walking Tour





Description
Experience this walking tour and learn about the darkest parts of Verona history. You will live some of the most cruel fights held in the Arena, you'll pass the old Jewish Ghetto and you'll hear about the cruel destiny of some of the people who lived there. Then, in Piazza Erbe, we'll undergo the sorrow and pain of the people exposed to the public shame, we'll pass the place where Mastiff I was murdered, reach the arch where the torture instruments were exposed, and then we'll see the Scala family Tombs, the courtyard where dozens of beheaded skeletons were found, and, of course, we'll end with the heart-breaking story of Romeo & Juliet. Be prepared to gasp and cry, to held your breath and feel touched and moved while living the ill-fated, hopeless human tragedies which occurred in the very places we'll be passing by.

We will not enter the Arena, but you'll learn about the history of the building and some of the many stories that took place there ... you'll be magnetized by it ! What happened in the Arena on the Ides of March of year 54 AD? Why were 176 people - including children - burnt alive on February, 13th, 1278?
What happened to the Jewish family who lived next to the Synagogue during WWII? See Verona from a different perspective and discover some of the darkest times that occurred in there.
You'll live the Medieval life and learn about its cruelties while watching the pillory or the tower where exposition cage hanged ...
Passing by the corner where Mastiff I of the Scala Family, the ruler of Verona, was murdered in 1277, we'll reach Signori Square, and learn about the sad destiny of orphans, about Dante and his flight from Florence, and then the hard life under the Austrian-Hungarian Empire ...
Looking at the Scala Family Tombs, we'll come to know about some of the plots that brought to their end: the hate among brothers, the murders, the attacks ...
You'll cry your eyes out at the sad story of the two doomed lovers ...

Fun and informative walking tour in Verona. Our guide (sorry, I forgot her name!) was lively and enthusiastic, which made for an engaging walk through the central part of Verona while she shared interesting stories and local history, ranging from Romeo and Juliet to a few darker stories!
